Re: CACI IPL Laser hair removal???

^ hey CE what clinic would u recommend in london?

rainyday, it depends what you want treated. CE is going somewhere more expensive because it's not an area you want to take risks with.

Re: CACI IPL Laser hair removal???

oh i wanted to know about face mainly

yea, pm CE or me.

to be honest though, i wouldn’t really recommend it unless your facial hair is very bad (I dount CE’s was, she just had 2 years of terrible IPL and was sort of stuck in the middle, she couldn’t just stop half treated).

my sister’s facial hair is pretty bad, but i’m planning on starting her on some intensive electrolysis.

i wouldn’t normally recommend IPL either but two people i know have had success with the Ellipse I2PL at Laser Hair Removal, IPL Laser Treatment - Knightsbridge Laser Clinic but it costs more than laser and it took them two years, just gradually thinning the hairs. i still don’t think i’d risk it on my sister though. at least with good electrolysis, whatever she has treated will only produce finer hairs and then be destroyed completely. there are no side-effects or the risk of non-success.

Re: CACI IPL Laser hair removal???

I went to Sk:n for laser hair removal for 2 years. I also tried a private hospital too, but reflecting back, Sk:n worked out better for me. They also had a laser which specifically catered for Asian toned skin.

However, I am relatively fair skin and was finding that the Lyra laser which they recommended for those with Asian skin types was not as effective and was making me breakout like crazy. After talking to the laser therapist, they allowed me to be treated on the standard laser which they use mainly for Caucasian skin and I am very happy with the results.

Google Sk:n if you want Rainyday

Re: CACI IPL Laser hair removal???

^ thank you to every one for helping me :)

I’m having IPL (I can’t remember which type, but will find out from my beuticians) and I can honestly say it is the best thing I have ever done - it has given me so much more confidence in myself.

The best thing for anyone in this poition is RESEARCH. You really do need to research what is out there and find out which is the best for you. Always go to a reputable salon - the best one’w will be the one that do not push their treatment on you. I initially went for laser @ sk:in, but after speaking to the consultant, she suggested tyhat IPL is better for asian skin and recommended a salon that did it. She did that despite knowing that she was losing out on thousands of pounds. Therefore, the most professional salons will discuss what is best for you and will even recommend a treatment that they cannot provide.

The reason that most people shy away from IPL is the cost. Laser tends to be so much cheaper than IPL, depite the fact there are more side-effects associated with laser for asian skin than IPL. But, if you do your research properly there are salons out there who offer IPL cheaper than laser - the reason for this is because they own the machine rather than renting it. I am now paying less than half of what I was paying for my treatment, because the new salon manager brought the machine and so she could afford to reduce her prices. For a treatment of six she has quoted me £550 which is a bargain compared to the ex-manager who started off charging £1200.

But, results will take some time to see, you have to be PATIENT.

Re: CACI IPL Laser hair removal???

Those of you that have been getting IPL for two years, how often did you have to get your treatments?

sweetpip - while i'm not saying that IPL doesn't work 100%, Laser undoubtedly gives better results for most people. even asian skin tones; you just need the right machine with an experienced aesthetician who knows which settings to use. I know a few (and that's too many in my book) who have ended up with induced growth from IPL. my electrologist has clients who had induced growth from both laser and IPL, where the right settings weren't used, or the hair was too fine to have been treated.

but i'm afraid that there are some things which are not true in your post.

firstly, laser machines are more expensive than 99% of IPL by a long way. the reasons salons prefer IPLs because they can offer both skin treatments and hair removal from one machine and can also treat all skin types from that one machine.

Lasers are much more expensive and the salon usually has to invest in two machines to treat clients of different skin colours.

A lot of sk:n clinics, especially when the first set up, did not have lasers suitable for asian skin and therefore of course she would have had to turn you away.
i'm a regular on laser/ipl forums and to be honest, sk:n don't have a good rep anyway.

I didn't want to bandy my qualifications about and haven't done so in any posts yet but I'm an electronic engineer plus a masters in medical physics plus PhD currently so I know how both machines work have read the papers written on them both when doing my research. This is mainly why I prefer Laser over IPL.

Personally speaking, I've had five treatments on underarms and am finished. 2 on bikini and the way the hair is coming back I think a third will be my last. And I expect 3-4 total on my legs providing I can bear the pain for the higher settings. I'm using the right machine for my skin colour and my aesthetician is really great.
Even the people I know who have had successful IPL have needed a LOT more treatments than this.

But whatever method you girls do, sweetpip is right in saying do you research. Only go somewhere that you people with a skin colour like yours have had success without side-effects.

Re: CACI IPL Laser hair removal???

Stoppit: you are obviously more knowledgeable on this topic than me, but I just wanted to point out that people have had positive experiences with IPL. But, I will try laser for my underarms and give an informed decisions then. However, as I said in my earlier post, after researching the various treatments available I opted for IPL as I felt this was best suited for me. (Did not even want to consider to electrolysis - fear of needles).

Sajal: I would suggest that you go regularly for the first 6 treatments, and after that you can spread them out.

i had a friend who did IPL for a year and had no results... she has had much more success with laser.
I my self have had 2 sessions of laser and my underarms were amazing... I had almost no regrowth after one session. The rest of the areas are coming along great too. The hair is sooooooo much finer and thin. I am so happy with the results. But I think it is very true that you need to find a qualified person who has worked with your skin type prior too.

Re: CACI IPL Laser hair removal???

sweetpip: that's fair enough, i think everyone should be informed as much as possible :)

it's just that unfortunately, IPL doesn't have a great reputation. it's rare to find people who have had successful treatment. the reason for this being, as i mentioned before is that Laser's cost a lot more so are a serious investment for a salon. added to that you need properly qualified aestheticians to use them. a serious salon that choses to use IPL would do the same. but i would say 90%, if not more just use cheap systems that do not deliver anywhere near enough energy to destroy the follicle and can be used with mimimal training. it's just that much harder to identify the wheat from the chaff.

underarms and bikini, where the hair is very coarse and dark, are perfect candidates for laser. people are usually done with underarms in about 4-6 treatments (inc asian skin tones) and the cost is about £70 per treatment. make sure the clinic you go to has an Nd:Yag laser for your treatment, unless you are fitzpatrick type III, then you fall into a different laser category.

if you live in london, you can pm me for my clinic details. they have both IPL and Laser machines; laser being used for hair removal and IPL for skin rejuvination.

Re: CACI IPL Laser hair removal???

Only one person at any time in the salon that I go to is qualified to perform the IPL (and she has about 15 staff).

But, I will repeat again if anyone is considering hair removal, then I would suggest you visit at least three salon to get as much information as possible, and go with the one that you feel most comfortable with. Also, make sure you have a patch first to test for any reactions.

This is a very informative website http://www.hairlaserremoval.co.uk/

If anyone is from the north, then they can PM for the details of the salon.

Re: CACI IPL Laser hair removal???

If you are interested in hair removal, consider getting it done with the help of IPL laser. An IPL laser is very effective mean to remove hairs and that to safely.
