i have cable from Comcast, and vonage (VOIP) and 5 computers on the network through a router. for the past 2 weeks i’ve noticed that my service drops all of a sudden at random, MSN and yahoo would disconnect. but i never have issues with browsing though. maybe thats cuz the internet disconnects for such a small time that it goes unnoticed while browsing? the LAN icon on my computer is always connected. i did call comcast, they came out and said that there was signal problem from the outside and fixed it. but the problem didn’t go away. i called comcast again and they said that the problem is not from their side now.
what can the problem be? can it be just MSN…or one of the routers?
i have a cable modem hooked up to the RT31P2 Voip router with a D-link di604 router.
any suggestions? its so annoying to have MSN dc on you whenever it feels like it!
i have invisible commands working in background, that open virtually, ping 216.239.39.104 after every 30 seconds, they fire two packets of 16bytes, 1 packet of 32bytes, upon having a host-unreachable-situation for the second time, (one minute) they make a record of that event. three enteries within 5 minutes and it pops up a 'messenger' service alert (gotta love old school!) notifying my desktop computer of the occurance..
after which its easy to see where the trouble is...
this is only proving to me, that its my isp or msn
I have seen this sort of problem with the router in the past...
- i used to set "appear offline" on MSN when i would go away.. phir jab aata tha to i used to find few really mad IMs... so i did some investigation... I connected my computer to the comcast modem only and tested the "appear offline" thing for a later period of time... no mad IMs wat so ever... so there was a problem with the router....

DT, yar all i'm suggesting is, when the alert of disconnection comes, EVERYTHING is down, but when msn is restarting/disconnecting i still have CONNECTION to browse/telnet/pingpong.. meaning problem is with msn client/server... and even while sitting late at nights, i see sometimes 3-4 people getting online at same time..that means their servers kicked'em out..
