c-section recovery

for those who’ve had c-sections, when were you fully recovered? i will be 3 months post partum next week insha’Allah but there is one spot on my incision that is still fairly tender and sore to the touch. the way the change table is set, baby ends up kicking my right in my scar which doesn’t help  i’m a bit concerned because the rest of the scar is pain-free, its just this one spot… it also seems a bit reddish but its hard to tell because of the position of the incision and the way the belly “falls” over it  help!

Re: c-section recovery

what I hear is that it can take up to a whole year before you fully recover, but its different for each. I had a normal delivery and last 2 times after 10-20 days I was fully recoved as did have pain, now this time it took 3 months to be pain free.

Re: c-section recovery

well doctors say 1 year at least and 2 years at most. Now I understand why.

It is best if you ask a doctor to check you out to rule out anything else. My scar area took 6 months ish to heal I still had that numb tingly kind of pain. Its only now at nearly 9 months cannot feel anything unless LO kicks feet right there and that really hurts. So I think it will take 1 year for all pain to go away and then for everything to heal internally fully 2 years. That's why I've read in UK if you fall preganant within 2 years, you will be made to have another c-section so that anything they have stiched up inside doesnt rupture.

Re: c-section recovery

Gosh, I can't remember the exact timings of healing, but I did have one corner that was more tender than the rest, and it still occasionally itches, 20 months later.

Regardless, tell your doc. There's all sorts of cuts inside that you can't see.

Re: c-section recovery

I would say tell your doc, mine took almost 2 years, even now when I do heavy work mine gets sore :( its been almost 4 years.

Re: c-section recovery

SGC, one thing is for sure, it does get better with time.

never felt any pain after first few weeks. started heavy work after one month.

after 2 and half year now do feel pain in the back; place of epidural.

Re: c-section recovery

with my twins' delivery, one was born normal, the other via c-section (yea, i know....that story merits a whole thread to itself!) the incision itself (tiny bikini cut) healed very nicely in about 6-7 weeks, but i remember the itching/sensitivity lasted about 3 months....check with your dr to be on the safe side, never can be too sure on how the inside cuts are healing...

Re: c-section recovery

eeek this is scary!!!!

Re: c-section recovery

I don't feel any pain now..it has been 17 months now.
And I think the skin incision itself healed well within a few weeks....but as it is understandable, there was a loss of sensation all around the area...from about the umbilicus to uptil an inch below the actual incision scar...It lasted about an year give or take...
A few months ago I started to feel very very itchy in that area...and all I wanted to do was scratch it like crazy...:(...it went away on its own after about 2 weeks.
I'd say consult your doctor. The skin incision should heal in a few weeks. But for the internal organs to heal completely,I think I was told takes about 4 months.

Re: c-section recovery

SGC you ought to let your OB know. it might be an adehsion or a pressure point for you. Its rare but severe worsening pain can also indicate a rupturing surgical site. Be on the safe site and run it by your surgeon.
I had a C-section approx 8 days ago. Am pain free with nicely healed external incision line but am obviously no where near ready for activities that increase intra-abdominal pressure.
In most cases, full recovery is expected in 6 weeks.

Re: c-section recovery

I had a liitle flap of skin that just didn't close properly hence the infection, this was my second c-section whack took about 6 months to heal, first one I recovered fully in 3-4 months alhamdulliah....I really hate that lower tummy buldge, so getting a tummy tuck
