Alhamdulillah just had a baby and had to undergo an emergency c-section.
It was not something my mind or body were prepared for.
For the moms here who have gone through it pls share your advice on things that made it easier for you to heal.

Re: C-section recovery tips
So happy for you, autumn!!
That time is such a blur; I really don't remember much! I do remember that after 2 weeks I felt MUCH better, but this is sort of an illusion as you are not completely healed, and you have to be very careful during that time, especially regarding stairs and lifting things. My mumani had real problems during that time period because she felt back to normal and had two children to take care of, and she ended up hurting herself.
Other than that, if you have someone who can make you panjeeri, that's always good. Let others help you as much as they can, even if it's annoying. And try to have yakhni and things to help bring your strength back. Eat plenty o f healthy, natural things.
Re: C-section recovery tips
Firstly,congratulations...!!
Recovery takes some time after a C section. But you feel able to move around and do very basic chores in about 2 weeks.Rest if you can and take it easy, but I think you have a toddler too,so not sure how feasible it actually is.Try to use any help (family/friend/husband) as much as you can.
Inshalah all will be fine..:)
Re: C-section recovery tips
Been there done that.. I wasnt going for c-section until the last minute and boom, it happened!!
take it easy is all I can say.. do walk around when the nurses take you outside, which they must have done already. I took about 5 steps the first day but alhamdulillah by the 6th day, I walked to the car when we were discharged.. take your pain meds as prescribed.. I cant stress that enough!
Let husband do the diaper changes for a week or two.. I couldnt bend down or do much so he had to do it all.. InshaAllah you will be just fine.
and no shred or any exercise until you have completely healed, which can be as long as 6-7 months.. I still cant do the JM push ups.. so keep that in mind!
Re: C-section recovery tips
yep....been there.....emergency C-section and paid the price for being mobile the very same day......was up and about and had showered the next day.
hubby did what he could to take care of me but I ended up with an infected wound and was in pain for the next few weeks.
do take it as easy as you can.....
Re: C-section recovery tips
Congratulations !!!
Re: C-section recovery tips
Take good care of personal hygiene..take shower everyday and clean the wound with spirit swab..the wound shouldn't get infected..
Re: C-section recovery tips
^ Noone told me to clean the wound or even to take shower everyday... I think you should follow your docs advice!
I did take shower on the 3rd day I believe in the hospital but it was HARD.. and it was even harder when I got home because we dont have a stand up shower!
and let me say this.. I had my husband run to the walmart as soon as we got home to get the granny undergarments, because I had a severe allergic reaction to mesh stuff they give you in the hospital!!
Re: C-section recovery tips
^ no one told me to clean my scar either.
i had my staples taken out the fourth day before being discharged and then they put tape on. i was told to take the tape off in the shower on day 7. follow your doctor's orders in this.
as well, and this might be hard with a toddler, but REST. rest, rest, rest. i had a difficult recovery and it took me 7 full weeks to get to a point where i could spend a whole day caring for gabe on my own. like sahar said, you do get to a phase about 2 weeks in where you feel like you're recovered and well and then you want to be up and it, DON'T DO THAT. you will not have recovered. you've just had major abdominal surgery and it will take time to heal. the 6-7 week timeline is accurate. healing does go on for a lot longer than that past those 7 weeks but so long as you're not into heavy lifting and working out hardcore, you should be fine.
oh, also, i had a plastic folding chair that i'd put in the tub and sit on while i showered. i just couldn't stand for that long and i found taking long, hot showers really relaxed me.
also, yes, granny underpants were a lifesaver. the low-rise ones just cut right into the incision and aren't comfortable at all.
Re: C-section recovery tips
The only thing I was told about the care of the scar was to keep it dry.I had those absorbent mesh pad thingies from the hospital I used for a few days after I got back home. After that I used those granny panties and that was pretty much it.
It actually takes a few months for everything to heal completely. We do not get aware of that and start thinking around 2-3 weeks that all is well.So as others said, try to take it easy as much as possible.
Btw what did you have...?
A boy. Right now I just feel like a truck hit me.
Re: C-section recovery tips

Re: C-section recovery tips
congratulations, i also had an emergency c section back in 2009, the only thing i was told by the doc was to keep the area dry.. moving around the first few days was a mission! good luck with everything
Re: C-section recovery tips
Mashallah congrats!
I had an emergency section too and i think the sooner u start to move around and walk yhe quicker u recover but just dont over do it! The day of the op i wLked and it was so painful but on day 3 i wLked to thr car when i gt discharged and felt alot better. Make sure u tKe ur meds regularly i stopped taking my pain killers after a week and all i was told to do was keep the area dry!
Allah ka shukar 4 months on and im ok just hVe a fat flabby belly:-(
