C-section mamas advice please

I blogged this but no one other than raania replied with advice. (Love you rania you are awesome :D)

i thought I would ask here as well and it can also serve as a help for other moms who have had a c-section.

.How long after the c-section were you able to lift reasonably heavy things eg baby in carseat?
what exercises were you doing?
What do you recommend for a speedy recovery?

i was very active before and during pregnancy but now can’t walk more than 30 min without backache. I have general aches and pains. I am 7 weeks post partum and feel like I should be getting back to normal but no where near . It’s getting me down.

C-section mamas advice please

Don’t let it get you down! Everyone recovers at their own pace.

I had a csection + vag with the twins…by my 6 week follow up I was back to normal…by 8 weeks I was able to lift and carry both babies carriers and handling all their appts alone. Never had any back pain or any other complication or pains Alhamdulliah. But my blood pressure remained really high until they were about 4 months old, and then it went back to normal lol.

Don’t overdue it, but at the same time, push yourself to do a little bit more everyday. Always follow your docs advice though, since again, everyone heals and recovers at a different pace.

(And I swear I replied in your blog..but I was using that stupid app on my phone, don’t know why it didn’t post :naraz:)

Re: C-section mamas advice please

hmm, Hammna the nurse made me walk at the hospital and i walked for 30 minutes (very hard.) But once i got home i was fine within a week so (not completely healed of course.) I actually had to drive the LO to the doctors like 10 days afterwards and i was fine …but my mom helped me with carrying the LO.
6 weeks is what the doctor tells you to wait…once your get their ok you should be ok to work out and stuff.
I didn’t have back pains but i did have a lot of pain in my stiches…lasted at least 5-6 months after the surgery.

you should get yourself checked out… not being able to walk for more thn 30 minutes isn’t normal.

Are you eating right? Don’t try to diet before your body is completely healed!

Re: C-section mamas advice please

Khatti did you have a c-section and vaginal in one pregnancy . Respect sister :k: and thank you for replying to my blog.y

My surgery wasn’t done properly. Had a discussion with the doc today. He said the wound is healing albeit slowly. As I am not having anymore bleeding he said that’s a sign that things inside are healed. He told me that the skin wound will take three months to heal as the suture used dissolves in 120 days.

I really want to start going out and enjoying the weather with my baby.

khatti which baby carrier did you use? As I think a carrier will be better than lugging a heavy pushchair up and down stairs at thus point. I wanted an ergo but the newborn insert is quite fiddly.

rabia, the pain in your stitches what sort was it? I get burning and stretching sensations in my incision site.

Re: C-section mamas advice please

I kept the stroller inside so I didn’t have to carry the car seat too much.

Re: C-section mamas advice please

Hmmna, my pain was more of pulling type. If i moved too fast, sit up too quickly…i would get a sharp pain in the stitches. Even when i laughed or sneezed.
My baby was mA very big and heavy, and we made a mistake of getting a big and heavy car seat as well. I think for the next baby i will also use a carrier. I do have the Ergo baby which is great…(but we got it much later.)

Re: C-section mamas advice please

My healing experience was similar to khatti’s except that a week after my c-section the sutures became infected because I exerted myself beyond the doctor’s advice. Had it not been for the infection I was not ever in any pain.

Re: C-section mamas advice please

My recovery was slow. It took me a full 8 weeks before I was anywhere close to normal and it took a while for the soreness to disappear overall in that general area. Go slow and at your own pace. By 8-9 weeks I was able to carry him around and push his stroller but he was a big baby so I didn’t really use a carrier with him for long at all. Having said that, we had the Britax one and loved it for the brief time we used it. As for dieting and exercise, always check with your doctor first and go slow. Rome wasn’t built in a day, etc., you know? Good luck! Inshallah you’ll be up and about shortly!

Re: C-section mamas advice please

I learned to follow pain signals. I rested super well for four days, then moderately for ten more. And then was active enough. Baby himself is light, it is the carrier you need to consider. Some carriers are super heavy alone even, baby poor thing is tiny at this point. Don’t use an unnecessarily heavy carrier. And listen to pain. Do as much as pain allows u to. Pain is body’s signal to stop.

Re: C-section mamas advice please

I have had 2 sections. My first one was an easy recovery I was back to normal within 6 weeks, but my second c section took a long time to heal as it got infected. Still I was able to carry the baby’s car seat and go about the regular routine close to 12 weeks abt 3 months .I was recommended to drink coconut water which I drank quite often and it did help with the healing of the stitches. Hope you feel better. Good luck

Re: C-section mamas advice please

my stitches were removed after 7 days and onward I was fine in moving up n down but slow movement.
After 2 weeks I was able to wash my own cloths and my child as well. And after 4 weeks, I was doing all house chores, with rest. So dear it depends on u and ur stitches.
I started proper walk after 3 months. push urself but not beyond the limit, slow n steady and insha ALLAH u will recover soon.

Re: C-section mamas advice please

It honestly took me the full 6 weeks before I could bend or pick up anything heavy. I thought I was healed after two weeks but the pain came back. I also got an infection 5 months after the c section. Be careful and take ur time. C section is a huge thing, and takes time to heal internally as well. I had the pulling sharp pain as well. They asked me at the hospital to shower up a day after my surgery and I refused lol it’s tough!!
