I’m doing undergrad in Business Adminstration, it would end by 2005 [if all goes well]. After that I’m planing to do CFA. Eventually I want to do PhD and become a prof. I was wondering if I could apply for the PhD after the CFA or would I be eligible for the MS programm in the HR Mangt?
Help and/or advice would be highly appreciated. Besides if there is any CFA, can you please PM me, I would like to disscuss s’things.

Hello stupid idiot.

CFA and MBA here and not to mention, one heck of a fella this Matsui. Ask away chanda.

Doing a PHD after you CFA is a waste of time. Do you like collecting degrees and certifications that yield nothing in return considering you want to do a PHD in HR???

Stop wasting our valuable time with this drivel and get a proper job. Do a CFA, work in asset management and make some money, drink expensive wines and get some fashion sense. Instead of pontificating on orgazinational behaviour and how it relates to Islam.

Matsy,

What's the difference between CFA and CPA ? What's better?

Thank you.

yeah a CFA and then a PhD in HR doesn't make much sense to me either... but maybe I'm missing something here or misinterpreting your question.

I know you can get some credits in your CFA if you have a Ph.D. but that applies to doctoral candidates and graduates from a Finance or Accounting related program.

I'm getting my younger bro to think about a CFA instead of a CA (CPA in the U.S.), but then again, in my MBA, I liked Finance over Accounting on any given day... and I actually "used" the knowledge in my consulting engagements, so I might be somewhat biased.

Matsy yaar, can you advise my bro on CFA stuff plz... I'll forward him your PM or somefin.

Nice to see you here chanda. I mean its good to meet a CFA.

Why is it a waiste of time.
Forget about the yeild and return for a moment. I’ve never seen a CFA who is a prof. Told you I want to adopt teaching as a profession. So can I do PhD afterwards. My point is basically that if I do CFA after my undergrad would I be elligible to get an admission in PhD cuz I wont have a MBA or MS.

Is that all you want to do in life, drink expensive wine and get some fashion taste. Tell you what I’m done with this stage I’ve different priorities now. : )
Thanks for reply.

YOu got my question right but why doesnt it make any sense I mean what is wrong in doing PhD after a CFA.

But I’m would only be a undergrad when I’ll join CFA so hope the credit acceptance dont apply for me haan?

This may sound strange but I had lecturer in my one of the previous samester he was a CA [CPA in US]. After his CA he did his MSc in Eco from Columbia Uni. Now he is planning to do PhD in IR. So why cant I do a CFA and a PhD in HR. Can you please tell me if would be elligible to enroll my self into MS or PhD programms after CFA

ok... a CA and an MS in Eco... I do see a synergy there... a Ph.D. in IR... that's somewhat of a switch but perhaps thats where the person sees himself prospering, but I can't comment more.

So I'm guessing in your case then, in the grand scheme of things, you want to do a Ph.D. in HR and teach... a CFA will be an "add-on" to broaden your knowledge... yes? no? if the answer is yes, then sure, anything makes sense... if the answer is no, then I guess I'm looking for more concrete opportunities that you think you can avail with an industry endorsed financial specialist designation and an academically sound HR specialist designation.

In my case, I have an undergrad degree in CS, an MBA in e-Biz & KM and am pursuing a Ph.D. in KM & Informatics... so there were synergies to be leveraged every step of the way... besides the academic stuff, I keep myself updated with industry endorsed certifications etc. that help me gain the knowledge I seek and make myself more marketable.

as for whether you will get admitted into an M.S. or Ph.D. program after your CFA, there are good chances for that to happen...

Not exactly. Actually I find both Finance and HR Mangement to be very, very interesting. I think I can do both. Its like having a bi majors you know. CFA I believe is a good enough course to teach you anything you want to know about finance. Plus it gives you a deep perception into things. I've seen on the CFA site people commenting that there MS finance didnt teach them as much as their CFA did. So I think this course would be enough to have adequte knowledge in Finance.
Since I find the other field to be very interesting I want to continue that as well. So it would give me expertise in two different fields you know. I mean CFA would make me an Asset Manager and MS/PhD would make me a HR [which also considered as valuable assets] manager. Plus I would be able to teach after that.

To be very honest I personaly dont find the 9-5 routine to be very kinda good. Not that I cant work or anything its just that I dont like it that way. With both the expertise I can be an analyst/consultant and a teacher all at the same time. And I want to do different things simultaneously so as to keep my self motivated and progressing you know.
