He is leaving in a few days, but I dont think many people would miss him. He earned a lot of respect in 2007 from all segments of the society which he has all but lost at the end of his tenure. He has cemented his credentials as a biased judge who has only rewarded those who fought for him. In his first stint (prior to 2007) he did take some important decisions. But from 2008 onwards we can see some suomotos with little or no result. I dont know what happened to the Memogate case, container case, missing persons, Mehran gate, cases involving Moonis Illahi, Gillani’s sons, Malik Riaz and so on. In the eight years as Chief Justice his tenure seems more noise and less deliverance.

Good riddance!
Bye bye, and don’t let the door hit you, you know where, on your way out. El Cheapo Justico!
Re: Bye Bye Chief Justice
I hope a better, neutral, impartial judge will take over and he will never become the political CJ like this one.

So many of you guys were such fans back in the day when some of us criticized his political decisions. I guess political decisions are all game as long as they are against someone other than your preferred party. It would be interesting to look at some of the old threads and compare people's opinions then and now.

I ll miss you CJ sahib :salute:

Re: Bye Bye Chief Justice
Iftikhar chaudhari is gone. I never respected Iftikhar Chaudhari because he was corrupt still stood to justify his post as CJ, and Pakistani people who always love corrupts supported Iftikhar. Actually, I would have respected Iftikhar if after reference to SJC, Iftikhar had taken stand in court rather than on roads, had let SJC investigate and had answered the allegations on reference. But, unfortunately, facing reference, with the help of corrupt political parties, corrupt lawyers, corrupt judges, and bhangra brigade on roads, made court to stop SJC from investigating allegations in reference on him and making reference void.
I know that Iftiakhar Chudhary stood for his post as CJ in front of Musharraf request for him to resign, and thus all (many Pakistanis) who hate Musharraf for whatever reason started loving Iftikhar. That means, it was not love of Iftikhar but hate of Musharraf that made iftikhar Chaudhary what he became.
Anyhow, saying that, I believe that the way Pakistani judiciary (rather Pakistan bureaucracy of every department) works where corruption, nepotism, immorality, incompetency, mismanagement, misconduct, favouritism, injustices, discrimination, and lies are common, I believe Iftikhar Chaudhari was comparatively a much better face and his tenor as CJ deserve applause. Actually, his overall performance as CJ was better than all CJs Pakistan has seen.
Note: Actually: Once I raised question of Iftikhar corruption and nepotism with one Pakistani renowned TV anchor person (with whom I had some contact at the time) who was supporting Ifitkhar Chaudhary, said to me that such corruption and nepotism done to help or promote oneself … like admission and job for Arsalan, some evidence of corruption on basis of living beyond means, and evidence of misconduct, desire of self-promotion and protocol, etc … is normal in Pakistan, and one have to ignore them when judging a person. My argument was that, such thing cannot be ignored especially if it is found in person who is sitting as Judge, rather CJ … but then, I know that for most Pakistanis, such irregularities is acceptable.
Re: Bye Bye Chief Justice
The biggest problem I had with him was that he was playing politics from the bench & threatening to jail anyone who questioned him. He undermined the SC as an institution. He should join politics now & run for elections. PTI meet your next presidential candidate...;)
Re: Bye Bye Chief Justice
Bye Bye Cheap Justice!
Re: Bye Bye Chief Justice
Iftikhar chaudhary showed is true colour even on his last moments as CJ. Iftikhar prmoted his personal staff to grade 19 surpassing many deserving candidates waiting for promotion. Supreme Court under Iftikhar also gave exclusive right to broadcast live Iftikhar Chaudhary last speech to GEO and kept other media outlets out (not even national media ... PTV ... was given live broadcast permission), even though such partiality is not only unprecedented in Pakistan but it is against the constitution … and it means, there is possibility that Geo may have bribed Iftikhar.
Iftikhar throughout his tenor showed partiality when it came to dealing with Geo, Nawaz Shareef, Taliban terrorists, Terrorists belonging to pro-Taliban sectarian outfits. Mansha group, etc … and throughout Iftikhar was bias when it comes to PPP.
Re: Bye Bye Chief Justice
He still isn't the worst CJ we ever had. I wouldn't describe him as total failure but a massive underachiever, without a doubt.
We needed that CJ episode. Absolutely. We needed an opportunity, a platform and a movement of some sort to spell out loud what kind of Judiciary we need, what kind of justice system we require and what is exactly is a CJ? Who is he? What does he do? What are the things he must do? What are his main roles and responsibilities. I doubt an average Pakistan was aware of all these things in the previous dark decades or had any such aspirations.
The media has played a crucial role in highlighting the fact just exactly how powerful, influential a CJ can really be and he's one person that literally can change the face of Pakistan, make history with just one decision. Believe it or not, the CJ did set up a desired precedent with Sou motos. I'm personally very satisfied with his steadfastness on Jataoi case.
So bottom line is, after putting up with CJ Iftikhar's tenure. The people of Pakistan probably have a much better idea how a good CJ would like look. The next CJ can only be better than him.
Re: Bye Bye Chief Justice
I was seeing one TV program and heard that this corrupt judge Iftikhar made each and every lawyer of his chamber a judge.
Anyhow, a great Monkey show of justice ended in Pakistan. Many supported him as they loved corruption, nepotism, misconduct and hated Musharraf, but today even those who did ‘monkey dance’ on road for Iftikhar, many are talking against Iftikhar justice full of corruption, nepotism, and biases.
Only thing I see good that came out of iftikhar taking his CJ post back, is that, institution of judiciary became strong … and that only happened because politicians stood behind restoration of Iftikhar just to demean Musharraf rule, and especially because Musharraf was too good to let all happen.
Anyhow, I only hope that future Chief justices would avoid from following the footstep of iftikhar in office, but take advantage of judiciary strength and make that strength to strengthen justice in Pakistan (not to further his own self).
Re: Bye Bye Chief Justice
He has his virtues, he has his flaws. After all, he was a pakistani judge.
He tried to fight with corruption but only selective one. He tackled PPP but was a bit soft towards PMLN... Could not tackle lower judiciary corruption, his own son's countless corruption, could not punish ANY big name for that, failed to punish countless terrorists with any punishment whatsoever.

Unfortunately his virtues were his biggest flaws. He wanted his name to appear daily in news papers by hook or by crook.
