Missing ballot papers delay polls in PP-147

By Hassnain Qureshi

LAHORE: Polling for by-elections in 10 National Assembly and 18 provincial assembly constituencies will be held from 8.00am to 5.00pm today (Wednesday), as by-elections in PP-147 (Lahore XI) were postponed Tuesday, after a candidate’s complaint that 5,000 ballot papers had gone missing in the constituency.

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Irshad Hassan Khan postponed by-elections in PP-147 (Lahore XI) and ordered an inquiry after Amirul Azeem, the MMA candidate from PP-147, made a complaint to the district election commissioner that according to the Punjab Election Commission record 130,000 ballot papers were printed for the constituency but Returning Officer Mehr Nawaz had only received 125,000 of them.

Mr Azeem alleged that the local Election Commission officials and PML-QA candidate Abdul Aleem Khan were responsible for the missing ballot papers. A fresh date for by-elections in the constituency will be announced later.

Staff Report from Islamabad adds: The CEC on Tuesday ordered the concerned district returning officers to report complaints about the polling process to their respective provincial election commissioner or a member of the provincial EC.

SHC’s Justice Ashraf Leghari, Lahore High Court’s Justice Nasim Sikandar, Balochistan High Court’s Justice Ahmad Khan Lashari and Peshawar High Court’s Justice Qazi Ehsanullah Qureshi will take action against the complaints received in their respective provinces.

MMA wins NA-34 (Qazi Hussain Ahmed seat).

MMA wins NA-56 (Sheikh Rasheed seat), Mohammed Hanif Abbasi wins
defeating Sheikh Rashid Shafiq nephew of Sheikh Rasheed…

http://www.onlinenews.com.pk/details.php?id=15651

thats a deep blow to the LOTA e Azam... :)

Good! I am happy that Sheikh Rashid's nephew lost, he played a dirty game, pretending to be with PML(N) and turning lota for a Ministry.

Sindh is disappointing, because the main candidates boycotted in protest against threats against them. So it's a PML(Q) walkover except in Karachi. The same goes for Baluchistan. The MMA is feinitely in the driving seat in the Frontier, 2 seats to watch out for is a frontier provincial seat where the MMA candidate is going against Federal Minister Sherpao's nephew and another one is the provincial seat in Mianwali, where Tehrik-e-insaf has a chance of winning a provincial seat in Punjab despite heavy rigging against the party candidate.

I am so glad Shiekh Rashid, for the first time lost!!!! Actually his nephew lost, but who cares, that seat isnt his anymore!!! It happens to be my constituency, and I am happy for this change!!!

This also proves how much the people actually hate the PML(Q)'s recent ba**-washing of Musharraf and the Americans...

Congratulations to the MMA for this seat, and hats off to the PPP for withdrawing in support of the MMA candidate! Sheeda Talli looses by 15,000 votes, now that is something!!!
