By-elections schedule announced, polling to be held on June 3

The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced schedule of by-elections for vacant seats of National and Provincial Assemblies. **Polling for 6 NA and 22 Provincial assembly seats will be held on June 3. **Addressing a press conference in the federal capital, Chief Election Commissioner Justice Qazi Farooq said that nomination papers would be issued from April 16 for by-elections and the same could be submitted till April 21 Nomination papers will be scrutinized between April 22 to 28 while the final list of candidates was expected to be issued by May 12. He said election campaign by candidates would end on June 1. Qazi Farooq praised political parties for extending cooperation in holding general election 2008 in a best possible manner.

LARKANA, April 14: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has appointed the district and session judge Qambar-Shahdadkot, Zameerul Hasnain Larik, as the District Returning Officer (DRO) while Additional Session Judge Manomal as Returning Officer for NA-207 (Ratodero, Mirokhan and Shahdadkot) constituency.
The election to the seat was postponed after the assassination of Ms Benazir Bhutto who had filed papers to contest in the 18 February polls.
The party sources told ‘Dawn’ that either Asif Zardari or Ms Faryal Talpur would contest from NA-207. Once decision is reached, the nomination papers would be filed on April 20, sources said.
