I need to attend a desi wedding in a month. I’m going with my best friend to buy an outfit in about a week. Ideally I’d like a churidaar set but am open to lehengas. I don’t want the outfit to be plain but don’t want it covered in kaam either…looking for something in between that’s elegant.
My question is how much should I expect to pay for a outfit that’s “shaadi guest” appropriate? $200? $300? $400? More..?

You can spend whatever you like since it is your money. Just have a set budget in mind when you go to shop and be prepared to bargain your head off. Do check the quality of fabric and kaam before you finally buy the outfit.
I think you'll find a good outfit b/w $200-300.

Thanks!! Yes, I know I can spend even $1000 on a outfit but I am trying to see what is a "reasonable" budget before going in. I was thinking around $300 so it's good to see that my budget isn't unreasonable.

Hello Paheli...there is Dsicount on my store AND i also have a dress ..want to sell urgently..it is the copy of Mehdi Designer with very reasonable price.
Paheli, it depends a little on where you are as well - prices in London are much higher than Lahore ;D
My cousin in Delhi brought me a new churridar suit recently, no traditional kaam but crystal work on a painted silk crepe with gold woven design on the kamize & duputta, very pretty & unusual that I wore to a wedding & she told me it ran about $200 (she bought the suit piece & had her tailor stitch it & do the crystal work). There are lots of nice options in the stores this summer if you are looking for something other than heavy kaam.

I'm told Dallas & Austin & Houston have lots of boutiques - my cousins are there & lots of things are available, but a little pricey. My masi bought a Ritu Kumar saree recently from one of the boutiques, its really beautiful with very nice medium weight resham & zari kaam on. I'll see if I can find out where she bought it if its helpful.
