Buying new car

so has anyone bought a new car recently? or maybe even a second hand one?
which one did you get, and how would you rate it..?

i’m thinking of getting a car, but i can’t decide which on to get. i’m somewhere along the lines of a malibu, civic, impala…pontiac G6 (very nice, but also very expensive). no more than $25k including tax.

so any suggestions or opinions would be welcome…

Re: Buying new car

Get either Yaris or Echo, u can either get base model civic or corolla as well

Re: Buying new car

yaris? never even heard of that one.

Re: Buying new car

Smilestar.... how about narrowing your choices to the features that are most important to you for a new car purchase? Power, reliability, v6 or 4 cylinder, sporty, coupe, sedan, mileage, etc? Your budget of $25,000 is a good amount for almost anything you want. You choose from quite a few companies and get a great brand new car of your choice.

I bought a used 2001 Honda Accord v6 about 6 months ago. I got a good deal on it, and all together it came within $11,000 with less than 50,000 miles on it. I love my car. I love having a v6 engine, because I drive on the highways all the time, and for me, a powerful engine was a must. I also wanted a dependable car that wouldn't require me to spend tons on maintaince and repair, and so far this Honda has not disappointed. If you get a used car, be sure to have it thoroughly checked out, because all repair costs will be coming out of your pocket. In that sense a new car is much more desireable. Good luck, and keep us posted on what you decide.

Re: Buying new car

You need to know what's important to you in a car. Does the engine power matter? Does handling matter? How many people do you want to seat in comfort? How much cargo capacity?

Does the brand name on the car matter to you? Do you want a low-quality car that comes with lots of options, or a less well equipped but higher quality car?

Are you planning on keeping the car in the long run, or trading it in after 3-5 years for another one?

Re: Buying new car

syani - wow..you got a good deal. there's hardly any mileage on it. i've driven the car that you have...it's a great car...great engine too.
well, i'm thinking about brand new - either financing at 0% or financing with my parents :D

MD - good points, i shall take them into consideration :)

so far i'm still leaning towards a honda civic sedan DX -G - it's neither too fancy, nor too basic. haven't had a chance to go check it out at the dealership though.

maybe the pontiac G6..? haven't really looked into it...but the two door is sweet!

Re: Buying new car

I think the insurance for 2 door car is expensive or something like that...

Re: Buying new car

Go for the 2-door Civic if you want coupe. Not the Si, just the regular coupe. It will hold value better than a domestic car will.

Re: Buying new car

^ u mean DX.

Well insurance depends on your zip or postal code as most of the insurance companies have collision/claim data based on it. http://www.toyota.com/vehicles/future/yaris.html

Re: Buying new car

you bet it is. Same goes for the colour, i think. If I remember correctly, some colours on cars such as red (correct me if this has changed) may increase your insurance.

Re: Buying new car

A cart. shudn't be that expensive, what sort of a cart do you want? a cart that is pulled by a bull or an ass?

Re: Buying new car

sorry double post.

anyway depends on the parking space, if you think u have enough space to park both then buy both, the neighbours will be impressed.

also don't forget to put on the sticker: " My other car is a gadha Gari"

Re: Buying new car

i think that's still true bizz...
and white of course does nothing like increase your insurance, but eww...white cars don't look good - plus with the weather we have up here in the good ol' north, the car will always be lookin' dusty and dirty..

Re: Buying new car

only if i was that rich ...
hey, maybe you could buy be one car, and i'll take care of the other one :D

Re: Buying new car

I dun mind buying a bull-cart for ya.

however fedex won't take it to Canada. (and bulls have a very bad habbit of petrol leakage).

Re: Buying new car

I dont know the rates..but 1 yr before..my bro bought a second hand Jaguar
and my dad bought an Infiniti...
I wud really consider buying sumthing second hand cuz of the decreasing value ..

Re: Buying new car

^^ hehe rich family. Jaguar have one of the nicest cars in all cars. Period. But also the worse to hold value.

Here are some general tips:
- Buy Japenese Car [Toyota/lexus, Honda/acura, Nissan are considered TRUE jap, although there are others]
Reasons:
- Hold Value much better
- V.low maintenance
- used parts easily available
- You will not be dissapointed (in general) with any aspect of their cars

General steps of choosing a car:
1 - Make a FIRM FIRM budget. Not estimate. Firm that u will not go over $25,000 for any reason!
2 - Make a critieria what u want in the car! 4door, leather, roof, reliable etc
3 - List ALL cars that u want to have. Even ferrari if u want
4 - Cut all cars that doesn't fit budget + criteria

Write the steps on paper, not in ur head. and most importantly - test drive the cars u can have, that will help u a lot.

1998+ Accord is good. Can't go wrong with that. I got mine (2000 Accord) couple of months ago. couldn't be happier.

Re: Buying new car

take a look at Acura and Volkswagon...both are nice to drive, the VW is a bit peppier and the Acura a bit classier
