I can recommend Blue Nile if you like any of their settings. My bro went for a designer band, which was a twist on a traditional solitaire setting but the main thing was that he got to chose the diamond because this kind of setting is all about the stone. He got all the reports and chose a diamond that was internally flawless with excellent graded polish and symmetry and no florescence, as all these things make a bigger difference than the colour grading when you are talking about comparing F to D for example. The first ring was too big as she got her sizing wrong and he was easily able to get it exchanged for the right size.
We shopped around for a really long time and eventually settled in a simple solitaire design with a round brilliant cut stone people's. I didn't realize People's was considered brand name since I found it to be really affordable. I wanted a really simple setting but really focused on the 4 Cs (carat, cut, colour, clarity) when it cam to choosing the stone. I ended up settling on a gorgeous 1.2 carat stone with great colour and no internal flaws. The cut makes it really sparkly which I love! I would encourage you to shop around and take your time. It took us two months to finally find "the one". Also, take all your salesperson's advice with a grain of salt. There are some people that are genuinely helpful but there's some that are only out to make a quick buck. Make sure your diamond comes with a certificate of authenticity and if you're paying anywhere near the "estimated value" on the certificate, you're paying too much. Good luck!
Hi Guys,
Can you please share your experiences when it comes to buying a diamond for an engagement or wedding ring?
Did you/your partner opt for a brand like Birks/People etc. or did you opt for a local seller, desi store or an online store (Blue Nile/James Allen)?
Do you think you got your moneys worth? Would you recommend your provider? Any tips for future brides/groom's when it comes to making their selection?
