Buying a car! [Importing from U.K. to Usa]

Welll i was looking for a car and came across this mini cooper [2003] in a VERY good condition. the interesting thing is the guy is offering it for a very low price. he is in u.k and would ship it from there. he is willing to pay for the shipping.

what are ur views? and what are the things i should check before having him ship it to me (if i actually decide to buy it)?

thanxxx!!

check if all the papers are correct :)

Cuz these babies are expensive like hell :)

could be a stolen one.
Or he could take the money and send NO car.

Yeah I know they are expensive...which is what makes it a little suspicious...

Aejaz The car is a U.S. model: it is a left hand drive. Ofcourse one can get a mini here but NOT THAT CHEAP!!:-D

Faisal Well I have a friend in U.K. and I asked him to check the car out. Apparently the seller didn't have any objection and readily gave his address. Lets see..

Heart Beat,

I was under the impression that cars were made to the countries specification, so I assumed a Uk Mini would be a Right hand Drive. If I was wrong I do Apologise.

And if some thing sounds too good to be true, may be it is!!!

Aejaz

Aejaz sahab- thre is nothing to apologize. I should have mentioned it first. Actually in the advertisement the guy had mentioned that he was living in USA but when I got in touch with him he said he was in U.K. and will ship it to me from there (and is willing to pay for the shipping costs). He didn't really gave me a good reason of why did he have the car shipped to U.K. in the first place. ah well...

i know this deal is tooo good to be true...

I know of a few ppl who were stationed in Europe and took their cars with them (military and stuff). So its very possible that he has a US car there. And all of us run into fina problems once in a while and maybe nobody's buying it in UK, it being US version. As long as the papers are ok and he's paying for shipping (check the VIN with DMV) I don't see a problem.

Good point and Suggestion.:k:

i wish that was true

it turns out that he didn't give the correct address since my friend wasn't able to find it...and i didn't get a reply from him when i asked for the correct address and a telephone no.

on a side note i don't see how does he expect to get away with this.

Hey people are different. When someone tells you of another someone, it doesn't mean its going to apply to you too. Learning from history doesn't mean everything will be the same in the future. Take everything with a grain of salt (or bushel?)

:)

^ooo i don't really care that it didn't work out since i didn't lose anything....:-) but its hard to believe someone would actually try to do something like this and get away with it.

He could have got away with it if you have paid him and wait for this shipment :) there are many people who will not ask second question and fall in this trap.

If your dealing anything out of usa...you have no warranty man.

your money is as good as loot then.

He's offering the car for cheap, AND he'll pay to ship it? Is he a moron? Are you a moron?

Dude, I hope you know they sell Mini Cooper and heck, even the Cooper S in the US now. Why go trhough al lthe troubles of customs and what not to save a few $$$?
