Button fears 'disastrous' result

**Brawn’s Jenson Button says failing to score any world championship points in Sunday’s Belgian Grand Prix would be “disastrous” after qualifying in 14th.**Button was 10 places behind team-mate Rubens Barrichello, who is his closest challenger for the world title.

“Not getting any points would be pretty disastrous,” said the Englishman after his worst qualifying result of 2009.

“Qualifying 14th makes tomorrow very difficult, but if you are not quick enough you are not quick enough.”

Button’s other two title rivals, Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber of Red Bull, will line up eighth and ninth.

In one of the biggest surprises in F1 for some time, Giancarlo Fisichella took pole position for Force India, who have spent most of the season at the back of the grid.

Jarno Trulli was second for Toyota ahead of BMW Sauber’s Nick Heidfeld - two teams who have also struggled for much of the season.

Button pointed the finger at his use of the softer of the two tyre compounds in the second session - most of the quicker runners abandoned that tyre in the final session after finding the harder tyre was quicker.

“I didn’t have any pace on the soft tyre,” the 29-year-old said.

"It was strange to be four or five tenths off Rubens. Our cars are different, but not that different. Something is not right I would say.

"Every time I hit the brakes the rear would move and I had no confidence in the rear end. I just didn’t have a balance. It was very strange.

“I am a little bit worried because something is seriously not right. Hopefully we can sort it out for the race.”

Button was not the only big name to miss out on the third and final qualifying session, when the 10 quickest drivers compete for pole position.

McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton and Renault’s Fernando Alonso also failed to make the cut at Spa-Francorchamps.

“I went into qualifying nervous as hell. I didn’t know where we were going to be,” Hamilton said.

"We knew we didn’t have the downforce of the others. Now we have gone down to a much lower downforce level and it is starting to magnify our aero problems.

“There was nothing I could do. I was on the ragged edge.”*
