Butterflies-Textile Design Thesis Topic!

I have alwayz been intrigued with butterflies various patterns more than its colors…hence i selected it for my thesis topic. However now that i have 2 start taking my designs (which i have done on butterflies) to some product/display…i am confused…i wanted 2 do room wallpapers…cuz i know butterflies is a common topic as in u see it being used in every day 2 day stuff so i want to do somethin unique with it…but my teacher is sayin it wl be 2 colorful for wallpapers even if u specify it for kids/teenagers…as they cant be changed weekly…hmm but i dont want to do common stuff like bags, apparels, etc…so help me out and give me some nice ideas…:smiley: i m into fashion but since we dont study fashion we dont know much abt the cuts n all so its neva a good idea 2 go for anything like skirts, etc which require knowledge of cuts.

dont do large butterflies, do small silhouettes, u will be okay.

hmmmm
how abt bed sheets/pillow covers/curtains/towels/upholestry etc.
my kind of idea wud b that instead of making full butterflies, use the differnt kind of patterns/colors/texture frm the wings n put them as a design

One suggestions :
study and describe the butter fly mimicry and the pattern on their wings.

may be add some drawings on butter fly wings of various types of butterflies and their survival strategies such as camouflaging with their colors and patters blends into the foreground environs.

hmmmmmmm

textile design dont study fashion.. no wonder i never find any good patterns in fabrics

silo or a stark outlined shape of a butter fly could put a modern twist to this not so uniue motif..

u can do a bathroom accesory project..

but u have to start with ur motif first so start drawing and do a lot of brain storming drawings... that will give u more ideas...

this is what i keep in mind when designing anything...

dont try to go against nature .. as in dont try to make butterflies look manly or grungy.. they are a delicate thing so work with their delicasy and intricasy.. work with what nature's rules are...so it becomes timeless ...anything too funky has a very short life.. .. dont go against them in the beginning but yes when u follow all the basics thats when u are allowed to break a few rules to make ur work unique and urs only..

its a butter fly .. its girly .. its colorful.. its delicate..

i m seeing bathroom accesories

a girls room

a comtemprary living room

note book cover

etc etc

i like ur wallpaper idea,

how abt u do a border in funky bright colors and keep the rest neutral with few strokes of the design outlined.. that would be very contemprary looking..

if u choose to do bathroom accesories... u kno 1 motif repeated and mayb something more unique as u comeup with in the process..

i think right now u r not truely inspired .. read abt ur topic, research some more .. look at books.. try to get truely inspired..

then the whole project will move on its on/

ya being textile designers we r asked 2 look beyong the basic shape of a butterfly and ofcourse we pick teh elements, texture, color, etc from them and encoprate them into our designs.........and i do have bedsheets as 1 of my back up ideas........but i m just lukin for this one thing which must be very very different and yet rite for my designs sigh

well i m inspired by this topic thats the reason i took it...my thesis is due end of dec so idont think i have the time 2 research more on the topic...lol...but ya i like yr idea of bathroom but 2 bad somebody workin on 60's already took bathroom...hehe...with wallpapers...hmm...the problem is that the designs have 2 be reworked (which i m totally willing 2 do) but there r some technical problems 2....hmm so im confused.....however i m lookin at somethin similar...as in scale....i thought of room seperators...but again that mite be 2 colorful for our people's taste...i dun understand y pakistani people dont like color in their life except in their clothes......basically the ideas u gave me all i have thought b4 so that means we think similar...so more ideas wud be gr8 rom u......hehe..............tx alot!

kia bat keri hoo yaar .. paki dramaz main to itnay colorful sets hotay hain k we in usa feel backward and paindu.. which city are u based in.

i say go with ur gut instinct and yes room dividers would be cool and unique and pratical too.. you dont have to make the whole thing bright.. like i said // i am so looking forward to see the end result..

emboss butter flies on wallpaper accented off by decor on table mats, and pictures on the walls which have butter flies as their main object.
small hand-bags with butter flies on them, made with fabric.
cushions with butter fly shapes and patterns.
butter flies rugs and dorr mats.

ya tx...i was just wondering can rugs be just plain piece of cloth with printing on it ...meaning do they really have 2 be woven n all dat crap..lol!

of course, a rugged, sturdy fabric, even synthetic fabric jute would be a great plac rug and if decorated with butter flies images, even more better. experiment with drawing first and then
include a model of the same rug.
i am sure it will work rather than traditional woven carpet.

Garbage cans… check different garbage cans, you will find the best textures there, … they different in smell and colours if you travel from USA to Torabora…

People throw half the meal and drinks in garbage and people in Torabora find there food in that thrown garbage…
