What’s the difference? I’ve googled it, and I’ve found the lamest answers. I’m hoping a proper South Asian perspective along with history and cooking experience can shed some light on it. Cuz otherwise I’m calling the dish the two names interchangeably.
Re: Butter Chicken vs Chicken Tikka Masala
I think it has different spices. They taste wayyyy different. Butter chicken is more creamy and mild while chicken tikka masala is spicy.
I think it uses tandoori masala while butter chicken has a lot more butter
Tikka masala is much spicier, it hits u immediately. Whereas butter chicken is creamier and nuttiier, the spice factor is different..
Like the difference between red chilli powder and black pepper. Sorta.
Re: Butter Chicken vs Chicken Tikka Masala
Lol they're not the same!! Butter Chicken has cream and butter in it, Chicken Tikka Masala doesn't. Spices are different and a little technique difference is found when cooking them.
Re: Butter Chicken vs Chicken Tikka Masala
They are pseudo-Indian dishes made for the western palette. Butter chicken I use tomato paste, Tikka is no tomatoes, heavier on ginger garlic and yoghourt. I prefer chicken Qorma, balti or Karahi. I used to cook with coconut base also but now damn kids won't eat it.
Re: Butter Chicken vs Chicken Tikka Masala
You can add or subtract spices in any dish, according to your taste. I've had mild chicken tikka masala. Both dishes apparently have cream in it. And both has some sort of a tomato base. And apparently both require precooked chicken? Is that true? Did Moti Restaurant really invent Butter Chicken?

Yes, yes and yes.
