Re: butter chicken recipe needed
^which oneeeee did you try aminas?
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
try sanjeev kapoor's ready made mixture for Chicken makhani...you should get it at any of the desi stores. It tastes awesome and if you work, it doesn't take more than 15-20 mins since you just have to add the chicken pieces and cream. I personally put 2% milk just so it isn't so fattening. really easy!

Re: butter chicken recipe needed
Which creme do I use? Like if I'm going to an American grocery store, will the box say "creme?"????
Is it the box that says heavy cream in the dairy section?
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
PCG its better to buy fresh cream for butter chicken but if u dont have that can use tin cream too,but less quantity.i makes butter chicken with almost the same recipe that Njavaeed posted but with my own mearsurments and in a simple way ,and it turns out good.
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
Shans Butter Chicken Masala Sux.
If you want to make it the authentic way then here is a tried and tested recipe of mine.
Dice chicken into cubes then marinate them with Tikka Masala.
Cook the chicken in the oven/grill
Make gravy with Onions and Tomato paste and Ginger and Garlic, add a bit of Tikka Masala to this and some fresh cream and then add the grillied chicken pieces to it and cook for 5 minutes.
Thanks, this sounds just like the most incredible butter chicken I tried at a restaurant. I'm going to try it.
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
so "creme" in american grocery stores means heavy whipped cream, right?
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
no cream is cream....i think its 18%....here in toronto its the purple carton...
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
is it next to the milk? i've looked and don't see anything labeled as just "cream".
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
Folks in the US, have you tried using HEAVY WHIPPING CREAM? Its like malai, thick and creamy. It worked out fine when i made butter chicken.
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
thanks ira :). just needed the clarification.

I don't think we get that sort of thing here. From what I understand there is "heavy whipping cream".
I want to avoid that though, because like the title says, its "heavy", and I don't know about you sisters, but I can't afford to go buy more underwear for a swiftly expanding a*s.
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
hahahaha! thats soooooooooooo true :)
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
I've researched "creme/cream" which is a brit/european thing a lot because I came across a lot of recipes that called for it. However, in USA we don't have a simple thing called "creme", we have half-and-half, heavy cream, heavy whipping cream. There's a difference in fat % in all these different varieties.
In UK - cream or single cream has fat content of 18%
In USA - half and half (10-18% fat) OR light cream (18-30% fat)
Based on that, I used light cream in chicken makhani recipe, and it turned out great.
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
njaveed your recipe is fantastic
Re: butter chicken recipe needed
I use half-and-half cream (10%) and only 2 tbsp butter and it turns out great

I'll go look for it.
Re: butter chicken recipe needed

Re: butter chicken recipe needed
yeah heavy whipping cream is readily available i US and in UK--there's double cream:)...hmmm for some reason I find half and half too watery when making these salans....
