Re: BUTT, ASIF AND AAMIR JAILED
LONDON: Azhar Majeed, the elder brother of convicted sports agent Mazhar Majeed, suspects that a senior Pakistani cricketer, who helped News of The World reporter Mazhar Mahmood, wove an elaborate plot to snare the Pakistani trio.
Mazhar Majeed, who orchestrated the spot fixing, took £150,000 from the undercover reporter to spot-fix last year’s Lords Test between Pakistan and England, has been handed a 32 months prison this week for his crime.
Three Pakistani players, former captain Salman Butt, and fast bowlers Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Amir, were also sentenced for 30 months, 12 months and six months, respectively, for their role in the plot.
Speaking exclusively for the first time to any Pakistani media more than a year after the scandal rocked the cricket world, Azhar, did not name the player he blamed for the scandal, but said **he was a “maverick” cricketer, who is “Pakistani cricket’s biggest Wikileak”.”**I don’t want to stoop to his level. He has been trying to make his career out of this scandal. He is motivated by greed, self-promotion and he lies,” said Azhar.
Azhar told ‘The News’ how he acted as agent of that player and the reasons why they drifted apart after developing differences over an advertising campaign.
“I brought this contract for him and he signed it without reading the terms. It was a one-off payment for three years’ contract but he believed he will be paid every year. He turned against me over this,” he said.
Azhar insisted that he was never approached by anyone for gambling. “Mazhar Mahmood spent nearly six months on my brother and I admit he succeeded. No denying that my brother agreed to the conspiracy and committed this crime.”
He said the life for Mazhar Majeed’s family had been a nightmare since the scandal broke out in August last year. “We had planned to have dinner with Pakistani players that night and my sons were with me too. When I saw the news on television channels, I felt sick. We have been under siege since then. As a family we have been through hell. Lies have been told about us.”
He said the family were devastated but added that the relatives in the UK and in Faisalabad, from where they originally come, stand behind Mazhar.

Salman Butt appeals against 30-month jail sentence
Re: BUTT, ASIF AND AAMIR JAILED
I dont think the low-life has a chance to reduce his sentence. Interestingly, he isent appealing against the conviction - which should finally shut his family up, who have been going on tv claiming he was ‘wrongly convicted’.
In terms of appealing against the sentence, the judge didnt give him the maximum allowed sentence anyway so hopefully this appeal will fail, and the scumbag will remain behind bars.

Butt, Asif ask to serve jail sentences in Pakistan
Updated at: 0940 PST, Sunday, November 13, 2011
LONDON: Two Pakistani cricketers convicted of fixing and awarded jail terms by a UK court have asked to be returned to Pakistan, to serve the remainder of their sentence, Britain’s The Independent reported.
The former Test captain Salman Butt and the fast bowler Mohammad Asif have told their lawyers that they would prefer to be sent to a jail in Pakistan, because the attention they are receiving from fellow inmates is leading to fears for their safety. A High Court application is expected to be made within the next eight weeks, the paper noted.
The former international cricketers made the request to return to Pakistan after they were transferred this week from Wandsworth Prison in south London to Canterbury Prison in Kent, which specialises in holding foreign nationals convicted in Britain. Most inmates held at the category C prison are deported at the end of their sentences. Butt and Asif have told lawyers and close associates that they would prefer to be in a Pakistani jail.
The report said: “The influential British Pakistani businessman Dalawar Chaudhry visited Asif this week. He said that the former pace bowler and Butt were sharing a cell and were reluctant to leave it, because of the undue attention they are receiving from fellow inmates”.
Asif was jailed for one year and Butt for two-and-a-half years, for their involvement in a spot-fixing scandal in which they agreed to bowl pre-arranged no-balls in return for money during the Lord’s Test against England in the summer of 2010.

Butt and Amir set to appeal sentences

Salman Butt and Mohammad Amir will appear at the Court of Appeal in London on Wednesday to contest the sentences imposed on them at the spot-fixing trial in Southwark earlier this month.
Butt was given a two-and-a-half year jail term after being found guilty of conspiracy to cheat and conspiracy to accept corrupt payments based on orchestrating no-balls against England, at Lord’s, in 2010.
Amir was given two six-month sentences under the same charges, to run concurrently, and is currently in detention at a young offenders’ institute. The Lord Chief Justice will hear their cases on Wednesday.
Mohammad Asif and agent Mazhar Majeed were jailed for a year and 32 months respectively. The three cricketers and Majeed were caught after a News of the World sting operation which produced evidence of Majeed setting up the deliberate no-balls that were delivered during England’s first innings at Lord’s. Majeed claimed to have paid Asif £65,000, Butt £10,000 and Amir £2,500.
The convictions were the first criminal charges ever to have been brought to bear for match-fixing in the sport, although Lord Condon, the former head of the ICC’s Anti-Corruption and Security Unit, stated in an interview with the London Evening Standard that “every international team, at some stage, had someone doing funny stuff”.
Tim May, the chief executive of the Federation of International Cricketers’ Associations, hit back at Condon’s claims. “Player associations are getting sick and tired of people coming out making these general accusations, the effect of which casts doubts over the entire player base. If people are going to make these types of accusations, make sure that they are specific and make sure that you have the proof to back up such claims.”

The judge rejected their appeals.

It was stupid to even to appeal for
Re: BUTT, ASIF AND AAMIR JAILED
LONDON: Appeals filed by Salman Butt and Mohammed Amir were dismissed by the Lord Chief Justice on Tuesday, Geo News reported.
The sentences handed down to the two cricketers will stand and Butt will serve 30 months in Jail, while Amir will be detained for 6 months.
During the hearing of the appeal Lord Chief Justice remarked that the appeal case of butt was unarguable.
**
Earlier during the hearing, Butt’s lawyer Ali Bajwa admitted that his client was involved in fixing during the Lord’s test.
Bajwa also told the court that by doing so Butt had conned the PCB and the Pakistani people.
**
Salman Butt has been severely distressed after his sentence, Bajwa said to which the Judge hearing the appeal asked why Butt committed corruption.
Meanwhile Amir’s lawyer during proceedings has asked for a suspended sentence for his client and said that he would remain in the UK to carry out any community service.
Will Butt’s father now finally stop pretending his crooked son is innocent? The low-life deserves to rot.

Will Salman’s father present himself and his son for hanging now?

He’s suddenly clammed up about the hanging part…someone should remind him.
Re: BUTT, ASIF AND AAMIR JAILED
His father is now tlaking about Salman reviving his career. Can someone remind him of the ICC ban.
