President said that Martial Law and Emergency is not the future of Pakistan, but Pakistan comes first. This is in response to the Vice president of Chamber of Commerce of Islamabad’s comments that why don’t you (Mr. President) get away with process of restoring democracy and announce Martial Law because its good for economy. He gave example of Singapore and South Korea whose economy flourished during Martial Law.

Yes. If there are law and order issues, or if there is a possibility that the excellent work done by President Musharaf and the cabinet on the economy front is likely to be undone, then he may take steps to ensure that 'Pakistan comes first'.
Martial law can be okay in situation when loot maar is the motto of rulers (BB esp, NS to an extent as well), but the reason of Martial Law must be to ensure that accountability is carried out of the previous government as well as establish a system which would ensure freedom of judiciary and law enforcement as well as accountability of everyone in government (so people don’t have to wait “termination” of government to take responsible party to courts). But what we see in Musharraf is that accountability was just the slogan which set hopes for people but then they all saw the accused flying out of country with some “secret” accord, corrupt people of past forming alliance with government and cases against them stopped/reversed etc. So a martial law from Musharraf :nono3: Then going by history of Pakistan no martial has been good enough to accomplish all that. Economy is just one part of the picture, don’t just have lust for money, lust for justice and freedom too.
And maybe Mush should learn from his past mistakes and this time around impose full martial law and cleanse everything. Instead of allying with the same crooks and pardoning them…

Short sightedness, selfish self-interest and chamchagiri ki bhi hadd hoti hai. Some of the sycophants Musharraf has around him are way over the top when it comes to feeding the ego of their Lord and Master. These are the people who will get him killed "tayyara fazza mein ff-att giya hai"].
