Why is it that when Generaal Musharaf proposed a mere 5% Sales Tax on Pakistan’s Businesses…the whole countries “Patriotic” Business Thugs went on IStrike…
The trouble with Pakistan’s Business Peoples is they want to reap the rewards but do not want to contribute NOT EVEN 5% towards the wellbeing of the State they Live in…Pathatic…
Businessmen of Pakistan agar Apnay garaibaan me munh dallian tu kia nazar aye ga…
I do not like what Army is NOT doing…
But at least they are keeping the Imperialists at bay…:ym:
That 5% hike was to put cover on other inefficiencies of government institutions. If we can push all institutions to recover all their required revenues from their sources we may not have to ask for 5% tax.
The increase in sales tax was from 15% to 20% which is a 33% increase. The sales tax is not imposed on businesses or businessmen but it is passed on the consumers. Businesses are mere collectors of sales tax. They objected because the prices would go up and sales would suffer. How would you feel if your tax rate is increased by 33%?
Re: Businessmen's behavior in Pakistan (Split from "military state" thread)
Current sales tax is 16% on both trading and manufacturing. Manufacturing also pays 1% special excise duty. A few goods are levied sales tax at the rate of 21%.
Small traders with turnover up to Rs. 5 million are required to pay 2% sales tax of their sales to the governement.
Sales tax fraud is common in Pakistan as the tradres and manufactuerers collects it from customers but either do not pay full or pay partly to the treasury.
