Lauren Bush, the fashion model niece of US President George Bush, refused to appear on the catwalk at Barcelona’s fashion week after she found out that the Arab world inspired the clothes she would be modeling, La Vanguardia reported Friday.
Bush, 17, daughter of the president’s brother Neil, had been booked in Thurday evening for the spring-summer collection of Spanish fashion house Toypes but was reportedly unaware of the theme until she saw the pantaloons, tunics, turbans, oriental rugs and Arab music to be used in the show.
According to the paper, she dropped out at the insistence of her mother, Sharon, who had accompanied her to Spain and felt her daughter’s participation would have been inappropriate given the current international context and with the anniversary of the September 11 attacks only a few days away.
Lauren instead showed up in a simple black dress next to top Toypes designer Jorge Galinanez to wave to the audience after the showing.
It was the second no-show for Bush, who has modeled in Milan and elsewhere, at Barcelona’s fashion week. She pulled out last year as it occurred only a few days after the September 11 nightmare.
who cares, publicity stunt for her, and expression of her xenophobia. Dunn bother me any...in a few years when she is older, designers will remmeber her childish antics and not give her opportunities. fashion is one industry you dunn piss the designers off.

Would people have a problem if the niece of a Saudi prince refused to model American clothes? Would it be considered racism?

Of course not Seminole only "America has racism entrenched even at the top levels of society"
The posting of this story shows how desperate some are to attack the U.S. This story is not newsworthy in any sense. How Laura Bush is racist because she didn't want to put on Arab garb I think is beyond rational free thinking people. Desperate people, desperate accusations.

Underthdome america is racist you cannot deny that america is an imperial nation that blackmails nation aftre nation, america bombs third world countries, it removes puppets and replaces them with its own selected puppets. Attack america theres one solution why does'nt america mind its own business and stop causing trouuble around the world from argentina to sudan from iraq to japan the american trouble makers are there causing chaos and war just for money and power.
Nobody is desperate to attack america its just a bully that gets the criticism it deserves and the day will come when it will fall on its kness just like all the previous imperial nations russia, Britain etc nothing lasts forever.

if the saudi prince was a model by profession and refused to wear american clothes but modelled other clothes, it would seem strange and idiotic as well. racist mayeb not...idiotic, yes.-

Lauren... not Laura..
as far as story not being newsworthy, I agree, why spotlight lameness of some inconsequential model and waste paper and/or bandwidth. I must have a word with ppl at AP and Rueters to stop their desperation :D
Does US have issues with racism, heck yes, do other places do, heck yes. Does other places having racism change the fact that their is an issue with racism here. Heck No.
