President Bush today praised embattled Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, saying he was doing “a superb job” who the nation owes "a debt of gratitude " In comments after a briefing by officials at the Pentagon, Bush said the United States “will honor the rule of law” in its investigation of abuse at Iraqi prisons.
except that us will not define, which 'rule of law' they will comply. the problem started when rumsfeld decreed that people caught in war fighting for a regime (that us considers illegal) are no longer protected by geneva convention and can be abused as much as the captors want. that mindset just continues and we finally saw the sterling results in abu ghareb. this is called leadership. that @ss clown should be kicked on his ass firmly and shoved to a corner for being an arrogant prick.
making an announcement that all rules regarding treatment of prisoner's are obsolete, as they hinder the war on terror
creating a new name for prisoner of war called "enemy combatants" to muddy the waters regarding their rights
having private contractors (American mercenaries) interogate prisoner's to eliminate responsiblilty of the Army wherever possible
playing semantics between torture and abuse to deny the truth (IMO sicking dogs on defensless people, sodomy with foreign objects is torture - thats textbook)
"- making an announcement that all rules regarding treatment of prisoner's are obsolete, as they hinder the war on terror"
Please show me where this was said.

The term "enemy combatants" was first used in the Geneva Conventions themselves at least 60 years ago.

Mercenaries according to the definition in the Geneva convention are a category of combatants who are specifically in a war zone WITHOUT the permission of their government.

Obviously there is a legal debate on abuse and torture. I agree with you, the word torture is more accurate in a lot of cases.
acting surprised when prisoners are tortured
There is a law against suprise?
Many of you are so vague about the Geneva conventions that it is obvious that you have never read them. Please read MyVoices discussion on why Rumsfeld should be relieved, under the poll at the top of World Affairs. A much more thoughtful discussion.
Yeah! He’s doin a superb job of making an ass out of his people and his government…The nation indeed owes nothing but shame to the rest of the world thanks to him!!
Yes, Rumsfeld & Bush both did a great job as they have been doing in the past 4 years. And that's the reason I consider them ready for an early retirement come November.
