Since Ariel Sharon is out of the picture, I just wanted to have a debate on whether this new Prime Minister of Israel would be any different. During his visit at the White House, President gave him a ‘green signal’ on every issue.
“Our preferred option, of course, is there to be a negotiated settlement,” Bush said at a chummy news conference with Olmert. The two men later held a lengthy, unscheduled private meeting in the Bush family’s private quarters. “On the other hand, as the prime minister said, that if he is unable to find a partner in peace, if nothing can go forward, he is willing to think about ways to advance the process forward.”
Isn’t this more like agree to our plans on settlement, othewise loose?
***“Israel is a close friend and ally of the United States. And in the event of any attack on Israel, the United States will come to Israel’s aid.” ***Bush said.
It seems like the Middle East will be opening another chapter of violence and unrest. America, as usual, is not balanced when it comes to Middle East peace process. The Arabs after hearing the position of U.S will be furious and the extremists will take advantage of it.
my question to people here is: do you think the in-fighting within hamas and the timing of this announcement of unilaterally drawing up israel's border is a coincedence?
They are blaming it on Hamas that it does not want Israel to exit. Like all of the Israel's actions against the Palestinians in the past have been peaceful.
The question is by drawing unilateral borders what difference it would make? Israel has exhausted all the other options from border, fence, killing, tanks, occupation... but none of them have worked. Road map for peace was the major achievement for both Israelis and Palestinians, now they are going back to square one.
Like Sharon, Olmert does not seem to have a partner in peace. Hamas is hell bent on destroying Israel. Hamas is unwilling to compromise, and the Arab world seems all to happy to turn the Palestinians into cannon fodder to turn the attention of their masses from their own leaders failures. Convergence is the outcome of Palestinian terrorism and inability to negotiate.
Israel is angle, Sharon is hero blah blah...this is not the first time we have heard of this.
Palestinians have never been given a choice, voice and option and with this new stance by U.S and Olmert peace in the Middle East would be even more difficult to achieve.
To refresh your memory, during the road map to peace they was a cease-fire by these groups to encourage and further the peace process.

Palestinians are constantly given a choice, from Camp David to the Road map, and they continually choose terrorism. Hamas is again given a choice, negotiate or have a unilateral settlement shoved down your throat. Palestinians want the destruction of Israel and death of all the Jews. That is not going to happen. From China to India to Russia to Europe to the US, Israel's plan is tacitly supported in lieu of a partner and settled peace.
As far as the Middle East goes, the leaders have lost their moral compass. They blame things on Jews for their own shortcomings.
When you are actually having discussions about Israel unilaterally deciding the terms of Peace, that is how you know the Palestinians have completely and totally lost.
They have lost the war, the battles and the jihad.
Maybe they need to think in terms of peace. A dignified peace is still possible, but if the West Bank and Gaza break down to a civil war, we might as well write them off as Mogadishu North. They are on the virge of complete breakdown of civil society. Somebody convince Hamas that waiting 20 years might be a good idea. There are no more arab armies willing to die for the Palestinians, just Iran who considers the Palestinians cheap cannon fodder to kill the occasional Israeli.
Now is the time for the Religion of Peace to lead the Palestinians to a better life, even if they have not a achieved their goals. There is a time and place for raising children without death and destruction.
In two years the Israelis will ahve completed their wall, and they will have decided all issues unilaterally. They are in a position of complete victor. That is reality.
Taking away rights and unilaterly making people go through something that they don't deserve might be the right thing to do in some world but it is injustice none the less. If it makes some people happy by taking away their land, choice and lives than I feel sad for their lives.
The Israeli-Palestinian conflict has taken shape for many years and during the same time there were many peace process that helped both parties. If diplomacy fails, it does not mean that Israel and U.S can sit and draw their own plans that takes away land from Palestinians.
Olmert unilateral decision is not new, when he was the Deputy Prime Minister in 2003 he sad the exact same thing given Paletinians Authority 'few months' to react. The difference was, U.S storgly opposed that speech and stance by the Israelis. It is very disappointing that President Bush who 'believes' in democracy and freedom, thinks that this the only way left to achieve his goal.
I am sick of this rant that Palestinians want to kill Israelis and Jews....what does Israeli military and political actions say about them. Their freedom, their security that kills innocent women and children is right. Thick heads I must say.
israeli actions such as this is why the hatred will continue for 1000 more years.
to unilaterally make such a decision during a time of crisis in palestine is detestable. but the world will turn its back on the crime, just as it did in 1948.
