Bush backs Constitutional ban on GAY marriage...

http://www.cnn.com/2006/POLITICS/06/05/same.sex.marriage.ap/index.html

President Bush and Senate conservatives renew their battle Monday to ban same-sex marriage through a constitutional amendment that has a slim chance of passage.

What do you think about this? Should it be banned?

Re: Bush backs Constitutional ban on GAY marriage...

Personally, I think it should be banned.

Re: Bush backs Constitutional ban on GAY marriage...

I dont think it should be banned. Although I completely disagree with "alternate lifestyles" and dont want my kids being taught about "two mommies" etc etc....well, we DO live in a democratic society and SHOULD accept others - live and LET LIVE. So...if you happen to be a "same-sex" couple, I DO NOT think you should be denied "partnershup rights" like right-to-die, living trust, wills, health insurance etc. Its only fair in this type of society....just KEEP IT OUT of public education (yeah maybe this is a little hypocritical but I think its more democratic...live and let live, just dont give me the details cause I dont wanna know and I dont want the schools to teach my kids that "two mommies" is OK. Let them live but lets NOT talk ALL ABOUT IT yeah?

Re: Bush backs Constitutional ban on GAY marriage…

oh yeah.. that’s the elephant in the room.. Gay freaking marriage.. don’t worry .. a few hundred UNARMED national guards posted to the border will bring illegal immigration to a halt..job done… another mission accomplished.. let’s focus on Gay freaking marriage

Re: Bush backs Constitutional ban on GAY marriage...

Should be banned. I don't agree with the Live and Let Live slogan. Not a suitable corollary here. Just like we enforce law to fight vice, Gay marriage should be treated the same way and choked until the very notion dies. What good is law if it cannot even uphold the proper morals in the name of democracy.

Re: Bush backs Constitutional ban on GAY marriage...

Bush is just trying to divide the country as his polls sink. The fact that he is choosing to focus on this while Iraq burns has a good chance at backfiring.

Re: Bush backs Constitutional ban on GAY marriage...

First of all, I think society has every right to regulate societal behavior, at whatever level may be. Just as society can choose which persons to give a driver's license to, it can choose which persons to give a marriage license to.

Of course this attempt by the Republicans is just a political ploy designed to distract people from the big issues and rally the Conservative base to go to the polls in November. It's just politics.
