Bus ab qabar watan mein mil jaye!

So Baig saab is at our house, came to pay his old friend (my father) a visit…haagaein. I open the door and Baig saab is with his grandson and grand daughter (9 & 7). After the usually greetings and salaams etc I plug in my Gamecube and my younger brother and the guest kids are playing togother.

Baig saab is from a simple mohla of Haiderabad, Pakistan as our father has told us countless times. He left Pakistan after the '71 war. Following the saying, “Ghoray or Jawan ka koi Deis nehi hota” Baig saab has been in almost every country in Europe in search of “Rozi”. In the late 70’s he came to America and has been here since then. Some where along the way he met my father and two became best friend even though my father is like 15 years younger than him.

Baig saab has also tried almost every job and isn’t ashmed of mentioning them either. Time passed and he sponsered his family from back in Haiderabad. Today he owns 5 gas stations and a market. His second generation is growing in America and his family is very close to ours.

After an hour I come in the living room Baig saab is watching his favorite program “Geeton Bhari Kahani” on PTV. After a while Baig saab is ready to leave.

My father (joking): O Chohrey (Chuhdary, we’re punjabi and my father called him that I don’t know why ) saab, aab buss kar do, kitna qamao gey. Aab yah 6 mehnay wala Pakistan ka visit khtam karo or wahan settle ho jayo.

Baig Saab: Ghafoor, Allah ka diya howa sab hai. Sub kuch diya hai. Kisi aur cheez ki khawahis nehein or naa hi koi tamana hai sawai isskay kay 2 gaz zameen ka tukda watan mein mil jaye. Aab mein Pakistan wapis jana chahta hoon, buss aab qabar watan mein mil jaye or koi duwa nehein hai.

Then comes an emotional moment in which this 60+ years of man is sheding tears.

After his departure I thought to myself how selfish and greedy he was. Sari jawani mulk say bahir guzar dei or jab bhudapa aya tu watan yaad aya. And I’m not saying this only about him, a few years down the line my father would probably be thinking the same thing and then prolly me as well.

hmmm...i can understand ur point.....lekin aik aur terhan se dekha jayay toh is mein selfishness kee baat nahee...in fact its kind of sad and i feel sorry for him....:(

agar un ko watan kee yaad ab tak na ayi hoti toh watan dil se nikal chuka hota aur abhee bhee watan na yaad aata....aur ab un kee ye khwahish bhee na hoti ke pakistan mein un kee tadfeen ho....watan mein dafan honay se un ko maali tor par toh kuch bhee naheen mil jana ....

watan se doore rehna asaan toh naheen bohot mushkil hae...watan se doore reh k agar us kee yaad dil ko na satayay toh insaan bohot khush reh sakta hay...lekin unhon ne watan kay pyaar ka dya apnay dil mein hamesha jalayay rakha aur ya toh woh un kee koshish ke bawajood khud naheen bujha ya phir unhon ne usay bujhnay naheen dya...aur mehez ye baat ke ab tak un ka woh watan se pyaar zinda hae bazaat e khud un ko watan kee us 2 gaz zameen ka mustahiq banati hae....

shayad unhon ne watan se doore reh ke bhee apnay watan ke lyay bohot kuch kya ho jo kayi log watan mein reh ke bhee naheen kerte...

pata naheen un ke dil mein kya wajhaan theen aur kya zaadti majbooriaan theen un kee jin kee wajha se woh idhar settle huay...

really one can not judge...

asal baat ye hay ke kis ko apne watan kee matti se kitna pyaar hae...

agar dekha jayay toh Pakistan mein bhee jo log rozi kamanay apnay abayi gaaon se shehron meein aa jatay haen un kee bhee tadfeen aksar un ke pind mein hi hoti hae...ye toh banday ke khwahish hoti hae...aur apni matti se pyaar ka izhaar...he has a right to his homeland...and his homeland too has rights on him....kind of like a mother and child..

in my family no one is settled abroad...my parents went back to pakistan after spending some time abroad, my brother went back to pak from canada after his undergrad and is now finishing higher studies in germany, i am going back to pak too now after completing my undergrad....and some of my other uncles also went back after spending some time abroad...out of everyone only my maamoon marhoom settled in england, and he is no more...he was also buried there in england (may Allah grant him jannah) and his family is settled there...but he always loved Pakistan and did a lot for Pakistan and Pakistanis more than a lot of ppl who r settled in pak do....

a lot of expatriates, while living abroad, love pakistan and might do a lot for pakistan...and they truly do have a right to that 2 gaz zameen ka tukda in their watan.....while there r also some ppl who live in pak all their lives, avail all the benefits of living in pakistan and avail the country's resources, but never have those feelings for pakistan, they do things that do harm rather than good to pak even if they have the opportunity to do something worthwhile for pak....but they get the 2 gaz zameen ka tukda anyway...

mere haqeer nazarye mein watan ke us 2 gaz zameen kay tukday ka asal mustahiq woh hay jis ke dil mein watan k liyay sachcha pyaar ho chahay woh duniya ke jis bhee konay mein ho...

at first i thought u were talking about Lal Baig :rotfl"

:teary2: I’m getting emotional here.

:rotfl::hehe:

..first generation out of Pakistan can never run away from pangs of desperation and helplessness from being away from motherland.. later generations never feel the same way.. these people are pasengers of 2 boats at same time.. their heart is always back home.. they are stuck mostly due to well being of their children or economic betterment.. they try so many times to go back but are stuck due to various reasons.. I have heard people who died here in west and could never go back.. some go at end of their lives.. it becomes harder and harder as time passes..

I feel so sorry 4 Uncle…my Ammi jan says yeh mulk aik duldul hai jo aik dafa phuns gaya bhuht mushkil say nikil pata haaaaaaaai :bummer: Allah mian g aap kay Uncle ko hamesha khush rakhay Aameen

..most interesting thing in post is that the guy has 5 gas stations and more but still cant go back!! many come in west to secure economic reaps but when they are rich enough they cant go back.. citing law and order problems back home or security ..question is when to quit and say good bye tom foreign land taking wealth and investing back home to create jobs there rather than keep on pumping taxes here..

Degas bhai, I understand what you are saying...... but imho... even if he has 5 pumps you still cannot judge, maybe these 5 pumps are financing 50 families of relatives back home or he opened 15 schools in villages with them. Its all about where his heart lies and what are his priorities. Khayr, just a hypothetical situation....

About your point of 'where does one quit'...I think a person can always get more financially secure, more well off...IMHO financial reasons should never be the reasons to begin with since thats a no reward endless path...When one has more he wants more...There is no end to it...Materialism, which is what financial well being is, should never be the motivation for any decisions in life...This sounds idealistic but I truly believe that if a person wants, he can stay happier in a mud house than a gold palace...The key is not being more wealthy, but being spiritually and emotionally content...and that contentment will never be achieved from money...

imho the moment a person feels that he is doing something behind which the motivation is material gain, and non material aspects are compromised, thats when he should draw the line and quit...
