Bury my music instument with me!

“Sain Marna was legendry Iktara player from central Punjab in Pakistan. He was a wandering sufi mystic mostly seen at truck stops on highways. He was discovered and introduced by Radio Pakistan in 1950’s. Sain died around mid sixties while wandering in Punjab”.

New generation is not aware of the legend and his work, because gradually the society forgot the traditional music and musicians. Knowing this attitude, Sain Marna had made a will that his iktara be buried with him.

Story of Sain Marna is not limited to one musician and one music instrument. Traditional instruments like Saarangi are also facing the same fate. New generation neither have any attachment with classical music nor they are interested in instruments like Sitaar.

How do you see this trend?

Are we going to be complete followers of western music after few decades?

Re: Bury my music instument with me!

Question here is, in strictly Islamic society, what place do musician have at all?

Re: Bury my music instument with me!

strictly Islamic is a misnomer for Pakistan. It lacks all positive signs of Islamic society and one can find every negative aspect attributed to Islam wrongly.
