12,000 workers toiled day and night for 8 years @ $4.27 per day. Not counted for are the number of suicides, workplace injuries, deaths etc.
The United States of America became rich and powerful on the free labour they enjoyed for several hundred years. The Middle East now follows suit.
This is so true....but it is not only for this building...it is any huge building coming up...and there are loads of them in the Emirates. The construction workers are the most hard working, and work in the most difficult conditions day and night....but no one cares..the living conditions are just appalling...it is so sad.
People look at Dubai and say "WOW", but there is nothing wow abt it.
One thing.. only one earth quake and its gone... They are targeting to make huge buildings but have no sense if they will even face earth quake and yes they feared a lot when last time an earth quake hit Oman and some of the hot zone of UAE.
Lets see where they want to go with this fakeness.
The workers who worked for countless days & nights, turning a dream into relality were paid as little as £3 a day. Compare the amount of the hard work they did, it equals to "peanuts".
UAE days are gone and rightly so. They will soon be bankrupt and i hope it happens asap. Afterall, these Arabs think they are from another Planet and surely they should pay for the pain they have caused to such workers. Pathetic people.
The bldg was started when Dubai was a darling of everyone as a model in middle east for trying to become a business and logistics hub for the region. It would be worse if they did not complete it.
Workers are abused, the sad thing is they would rather take the 4.76 and be away from family and live like cattle because they did not have something to earn a good living in their homelands.
Abu Dhabi did smart investments in bringing American Universities to open campuses there, getting the Lourve and Guggenheim museums to open wings there, F1 Racing, etc. They want to make Abu Dhabi a center of education, culture, arts, etc.
While Dubai went on becoming a Las Vegas, Abu Dhabi is trying to make it self a Boston.
