buried civilisation

We all read about civilisations buried deep in ground, occasionally we hear that a new site has been discovered which happened to be part of some civilisation 3000 or 4000 thousand or several thousand years ago. This article shows finding of a 6000 year old site in England.

Did any “civilisation”, “city” or any other part of world see such devastation/destruction causing all of it to be buried in last 1500 years? I am not talking about a house or some other place left vacant due to war or something like that, I’m talking about something like whole village/town or city… any one?

This doesn't apply to your date range of 1500 years i'm afraid, but around 1900 years ago - the entire town of Pompeii alongwith all its inhabitants were obliterated by the volcanic eruption. i think it was not just Pompeii, but a nearby town called Herculaneum as well. They call Pompeii now the 'vanished city' or the 'forgotten city'. Everything was wiped out... thanks to the volcanic ash, many parts of Pompeii have been preserved - roads, some villas, a few public fountains, buildings, etc. Dunno about Herculaneum though.

nadia

hercolano, although not in as good of a shape as pompei, is still pretty conserved. I had a chance to see both places in 94 and was pretty impressed.

and pompei has more than just some roads and a few villas that were preserved, there are many homes, monuments that you can walk in and around.

Please excuse my typo there of Herculano :o i wasn't sure how to spell it.

wow you actually visited these places ?? i guess this is the wrong thread to be asking this in, but if you (and Changez) don't mind my asking, what was that like? Do you have pictures? What's Pompeii like - do they have some 'roads' or 'streets' preserved, like you can actually walk down a road with structures still standing on either side? um not to sound morbid here, but what about bodies - i read they have bodies of some of the inhabitants preserved due to the ash. What was the whole experience like? i think that's so interesting you actually visited these places. i have grown up reading about Pompeii in encyclopaedias, been fascinated with the few pictures i saw. But i don't think i'll ever get the opportunity to actually visit it in person.

Theres a whole lot of information on these things. It's really quite fascinating. You learn not only about the past, but a lot about the present when you study the past.

If you go to Rome, you'll see that building younger than 2000 years old have been buried underground. Apparently, what used to happen was that the river would flood, and deposit a deep silt layer every year. Whilst Rome was in its boom period, they used to organise a clean up each year. However, after the fall of the Empire, they couldn't organise the post-flood clear up, and ove the course of the nest hundred year much of the city was buried under silt deposits.

I was looking for this information to see if what I had heard/read was right. Allah swt has stopped such punishments (azaab) which destroy civilisations like the Lute AH's nation, Aad/Samoud, Noah AH's nation etc. Thats why I want to see if we have any record of a nation/civilisation destroyed after arrival of Prophet Mohammed PBUH.

Has anyone read such (of stopped azaab of destruction etc.)?
