burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

There exists no society that's exempt from extremes. This is just another example!
Nontheless, it's a good post!

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

forshadowing?

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

LI,

The burger group is relatively small but extremely influential. The Mullah Kings constitute a large part of Pakistan's population, but they have little to no recognization in the upper echelons of power at the moment. (Except in NWFP and Baluchistan) It's a fine line our Government is walking, between the demands of the progressive contingent and settling the feals of the religion oriented.

Really as Minerva noted in her excellent post, this is just a transitionary period, folks. Western countries went through similar metamorphisis around the turn of the last century. India is also going through the same phase - so are many other countries. Where this will all lead to is anyone's guess. Newton's third law is well at work. Remember, we are talking about fringe extremes here. A multicultral society sustains all types and all sorts, and that is what Karachi really is. Move to B area or any of Jamiat's strongholds and you will see the opposite for yourself.

Up here in Punjab we just sit back, relax, drink some lussi and watch the ants wrestle the bull. tis fun. :)

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

i know not all kids are doin this but its scary..what are my cousins in pakistan doing??

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Hahahahaha.

Great post!

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Yeah, Musharraf is holding a gun to everybody’s heads and forcing them to indulge in sex, drugs and God knows what else. :jhanda:

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

This ranjhan kid gets better and better. Pretty soon, I think we'll see him posting pictures of himself in a dhoti and lambi dhaari encouraging the progressive males of GS to revert back to our archaic ways of life, for our ancestors were all wise and all good.

This article really creeped me out. Its one thing when this behavior is coming form teens and young adults...another when its seen in 10 year olds. Clearly, this is no normal routine transition - this is a highly serious social problem that needs to be solved.

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Why don't people talk about Pakistani 'desperate housewives'? Is there such a thing back home? :D

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Actually if you’ve ever seen the educational reforms reflected in the curriculum brought about by Musharraf, you are not far off the mark.

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

can you describe the exact aspects of the curriculum that you find would encourage sex and drugs please?

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Post scanned page(s) of the text book(s) in question.

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Sara, forget worrying about what your cousins back home are doing. Really, as much as it is true, it is afterall about just a fragment of our society. A girl indulging in pre-marital sex or guys taking drugs represent a miniscule section of the population. However, others getting drawn into the fold gradually, subtly, consciously is worrisome no doubt but thats bound to happen and I believe almost all the societies across the board are facing these pressures from without.
Ranghan: There is one thing that I feel we keep going back to or harping on, and I would object to that. What does enlightened moderation has to do with all this? I mean why do we have to read this concept/phenomenon/or his statement in the context of religion alone. Or do you think us/we as a nation or people morally and ethically have reached a nadir that someone's pronuncements would profoundly affect us, such that we would all go astray.
I find that amusing, really. We seriously need to change our perspective and stop viewing everything in a negative light. If we keep the same line of thinking then we would find Khatmai's 'dialogue between civilizations' equally offensive.no?

I believe its the parents who should be accountable, that is if they really think they aren't doing a good enough job. Why do we have to blame a leader or someone else for the ills that plague our society.

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

what are you clapping for. Don’t you know that musharraf kills a 1 year old every day and drinks their warm blood. Don’t you know that musharraf goes into the mosque everyday, grab a mullah by their 10 foot beard and drag them into a rave party in karachi. Musharraf has single handedly turned us into cow piss drinking hindus. Now get in line and kill this kaafir.

The things musharraf gets blamed for nowadays.

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

hell ya

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Very enlightening and depressing at the same time. Then again every society has its problems. The group described adds up to a very small percentage in Pakistan. Rich and elite in almost all societies and countries are spoiled to an extent.

Yes, drugs may be becoming popular in Pakistan, but I don’t think members belonging to the middle or lower class families in Pakistan would indulge themselves into such activities. Most of them have strong family values and cultural beliefs, which will not allow them to indulge into such activities.

Besides, people from middle and lower class families may indulge in drugs and alcohol only to alleviate themselves of the problems (for a little while) that they face in Pakistan such as joblessness, inflation, violence and the like. That too is not common and don’t think it will ever be the case.

One of my relatives recently returned from Karachi. According to her, people in the middle-class areas in Pakistan have become more religious, while those residing in upper-class areas have become more posh and outgoing than they were in the past.

Again, this goes to show that the culture discussed in this article is prevailing amongst the rich and the elite in Pakistan, who are in minority anyway. 80-90% of our population is still decent and will hopefully get better.

Here’s an article I found by the same writer:

Although it does not do too much of justice to Farhat Hashmi, but nonetheless it shows how a lot of females (and males) are attending her classes/courses on a regular basis to learn about Islam and to incorporate the Islamic teachings and practices in their daily lives to the best of their ability.

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Farhat Hashmi. :k:

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle

Ranjhan, Farhat Hashmi is adding to higher divorce rate in Pakistan.

Re: burgers of karachi and their lifestyle
