Re: Bunto Kazmi’s Designs

Does anyone know what kind of fabric Bunto Kazmi uses in her signature creations, particularly the heavy bridals?

In the picture above, if it indeed is a Bunto creation, it looks like a very corse cotton based fabric, almost like khaadi or handloom fabric…

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

French cotton net

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

It looks like kamdani work, right?

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

No, french net is different and cotton net is different. French net is imported and costs much more if you get an outfit made of it by Bunto, because it costs 80,000 rupees per gaz. Cotton net is local and costs less.

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

french net is still made from cotton. what they call cotton net in pakistan is just local where as french net is non local. She does both but charges more for french net as Giggles says above.

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

I don't believe french net is made of cotton as I've seen and felt it at her showroom. It's more of a silk thread, like lace.

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

anyways Keane89, im sure u really dont care what exactly goes into the french net, but anyways to answer your question one final time without arguing over details (since most of us dont have that kind of time) its French Net if you want the real expensive stuff and cotton net if you just want a similar look. And yes to giggles point the french net is softer and silkier but jsut as sturdy as the cotton net, as to what exactly its made of i really dont care, i dont know if its pure cotton or a cotton mix. anyways go to a good fabric place and they'll carry both and let you feel the texture on your own and see the difference and what you like best. good luck.

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

Either way, imported "French Net" (which I am very skeptical of in the sense that it is highly unlikely it actually indeed comes directly from France instead of merely called so for the sake of inflating prices like so many other fabric varieties FALSELY sold as such in Pakistan ranging from "French Lace" all the way to "French Chiffon") or local Cotton Net, I tend to think the fabric is too corse up close. But I suspect that it must be necessary for the Kaamdani work... and I suppose you can't really tell from far away.

Hmm... the interesting thing is that this cotton-based net has virtually died out in India and replaced with the synthetic kind which everyone from big designers from Manish Malhotra use to the local retail shop level.

So why aren't big Pakistani designers like Bunto using Synthetic Polyester-based Net???

... perhaps because gasp its DIRT cheap and it would reduce profit margins???

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

^probably becoz the nylon based net is a horrible fabric which comes off too sheer and does not have an elegent fall, it bunches up here and there and completely ruins the look of the jora.

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

As for **Synthetic Polyester-based Net, **the fabrc isn't worth it. It's the cheap net on which Indian sarees are being made thesedays and being sold abundantly at Rabi / Aashiyana.

Cotton net, the Pakistani one, is by far my MOST LOVED fabric. I got it at 1,100 rupees per yard from Hilal Silk, Zamzama, The beauty of this fabtic is that it sustains the heaviest of kaams including dabka, kaamdani and zardozzi. Not to forget the fact that it prevents kaam from getting tangled and uljahna.

and yes I share your skepticism about imported fabric.

The locally available fabric of cotton net, comes in so many designs, With gold *bootis, zari bootis etc. *It is actually beautiful and paaidaar.

Re: Bunto Kazmi’s Designs

The middle one by Umar S, is made on cotton net.

Re: Bunto Kazmi's Designs

Does anyone know what a 1.5 lac or 2 lac Bunto jora would look like? Could you post pictures please? I've emailed Fizza and she's told me that it wouldn't be very heavy, but that I still want a better idea?

Is it worth getting a 1.5 lac jora or will it just look too simple?

Re: Bunto Kazmi’s Designs
