Bummer: Laptop Hard drive is failing?

So I have this very cool sony vaio laptop which I bought not too long ago. Since two weeks now, my laptop has been giving SMART prediction of my hard drive failing. I tried running some tools and it showed me a techie error on hard drive which was corrected.

But now I have one bad sector block and I fear that its gonna spread. Can I do anything about it people?

Re: Bummer: Laptop Hard drive is failing?

Donate the hard drive…its ramadan :hehe:

Re: Bummer: Laptop Hard drive is failing?

Transfer everything to another drive and use that hatora in that corner to smash this sucker. Hard drives dime a dozen now a days.

Re: Bummer: Laptop Hard drive is failing?

As a last resort I would transfer the important data onto another drive and then zero fill the drive + low level format it. If this doesn’t help fix the smart error and clean the potentially bogus bad block, pretty sure nothing else will. Would then claim it in warranty for hopefully a brand new replacement drive.

I wouldn’t trust a drive with errors like that.
With That said you can use SpinRite, its really good with drive recovery. I actually have one drive being scanned right now. Been going for a few days and only about 5% done. Fingers crossed, hoping to retrieve some stuff off of it.
