Bulletproof cars needed for president

http://www.dailytimes.com.pk/default.asp?page=story_2-9-2002_pg7_27

“The Ministry of Interior is seeking two bulletproof Mercedes Benz cars expected to cost Rs. 80 million each, to be used by the President and/or the Presidency”

That is to say PRs.8 crores for 1 merc. For that price you can get approx. 30 Mercs of same class, if leave bullet proofing out. Our (Indian)Ambassadors are made bullet proof, Indian road proof and, if someone advises mushy uncle about economy, you can get 150 of them for 8 crores. :hehe:

So it seems the chickens (terrorists/Jihadis) have really come home to roost and Musharraf now needs double the protection, apart from the usual security rings thrown out for President’s cavalcade.

Ok

OK for what. Is it that u r going to send this suggestion of buying Ambassadors from India.

we are certianly wouldnt buy ambassdor from you people. if have to do it we can make changes in local assembled cars in pak.

I dont understand what happened to 80 mrecs imported by Nawaz sharif and 1 by each general in last five years. why do they need these at first place. I dont think these are worn, its just some one need to make money from for this deal. otherwise there is no need for any new car, presidents always use to have bullet proof mercs anyway.

Most of the leaders (esp. at the top most position) do it as per their whims and fancies. Even if they do not like the upholstery, they would change the whole car rather than just refurbishing it.
I wonder if Presidents/HOGovt.s are ever audited for such kind of misappropriation of funds (if I may term that as this). And Musharraf, given the absolute power vested in him at present, is beyond any questioning I suppose.

its not only musharraf, evey single leader abused the power in recent past especially!

Oye dhir, what about the langda Vajpayee? Why does he always attend a public conference behind a bullet proof screen? Why does the langda fear his life so much? Why does the idiotic puppet farooq abdullah walk with so many body guards, and the Kashmiri liberation leaders walk without them?

Rs 80 million for a car, bulletproof or otherwise, seems quite excessive. The origin of this news, is a website called "Daily Times" and the article is written by some "Shaukat Piracha" which quotes some unnamed sources. I'd say this is fishy at its source. :)

Exactly, and who is so concerned about this uncredible news item, an Indian, who is so obsessed with us, and worries so much for us ;)

Actually the cars arent merely bullet proof. Not only are they designed to withstand small calibre anti-tank rounds (like RPGs which are widely available) but are also equiped with radiation detectors, explosive sniffing devices and other defensive measures, hence the high price. And my source mentioned that it's possible that the americans could be paying for the cars.

I bet you it'll be a covertible, like JFK's

:hehe:

The cars are S500's and the cars are very powerfully armoured they can survive several types of Ammunition and different types of addons can be added such as Backup systems 2nd Radiator Internal Oxygen systems, Gas Masks, CCTV, Electornic Shock systems, Ramming modifiactions but any more would be saying too Much....

Farooq flees as funeral of minister attacked

SRINAGAR, Sept 12: Occupied Kashmir’s chief minister Farooq Abdullah and his son, who is India’s junior foreign minister, on Thursday fled a funeral for an assassinated minister after Mujahideen attacked an Indian army convoy nearby.

Farooq and Omar Abdullah flew out by helicopter after the 25-minute battle involving heavy gunfire and loud explosions. Several soldiers were injured.

The skirmish occurred less than a kilometre from a funeral for the held state’s law minister, Mushtaq Ahmed Lone, who was gunned down while he was addressing an election rally on Wednesday.

Mourners panicked at the sound of gunfire, but the funeral procession later continued peacefully, with Lone’s body wrapped in a white shroud covered in red, white and pink petals.

Police said seven people, including a political activist, were killed in separate clashes on Thursday and Wednesday night. The Kashmir Press Service said two groups had called to say they killed Lone.

Farooq Abdullah blamed the election attacks on Pakistan, which India has said wants to sabotage the poll.

“These killings and attacks are meant to disrupt the poll in the (held) state, but you will find no change in our resolve to go ahead with the process,” said Farooq, whose National Conference party is part of the ruling coalition in New Delhi.

FERNANDES IN TOWN: Indian Defence Minister George Fernandes met senior officials in Srinagar on Thursday to discuss the rising violence, officials said.

He had been due to attend the funeral in Lone’s remote home village of Sagam, near the Line of Control, but had not arrived by the time of the attack.

More than 300 people have been killed, including another candidate and several party workers, since the election was announced last month.-Reuters

A relative of mine was part of the Pakistani delegation to Guantanamo Bay, and along the way several members of the delegation stopped in at an American company which builds limos for the US President, to see demonstrations of their technolgy.
