Building a new PC

Here is the list of parts that I have come up with.

Anyone cares to review the specs and give me some feedback before I spend my hard earned greens?

Thanks in advance!!

Re: Building a new PC

to be honest, the video card sounds lame! rest is fine for the next 1-2 years I guess...
you can overclock your cpu...if you want I can show you how...

Re: Building a new PC

Thanks. I have actually reconsidered the video card since I posted this. I am now considering buy this now:

EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail
Link

Its not the top of the line but its good enuff for me since I am not a gamer. I think that 256MB with 12 pixel pipeline should do the job to maintain a balanced system.

Re: Building a new PC

That's a decent choice since you are not a gamer!

Re: Building a new PC

I will suggest E6600 instead of E6420… i think 266 Mhz do make a lot of difference in quite a few places..

But E6420 is not a bad choice…

and for Motherboard do give MSI a consideration too. although your choice is not bad either.. but i think MSI board has more options.

and for graphics i think it will be wise to invest in DirectX 10 card when you can get them for under 100… plus it will give better experience with Vista Aero Glass

But i will like to say that your over choice is not bad either… just a difference on personal preferences..

Re: Building a new PC

I did look at the video card you are suggesting but i couldn’t see what the pixel pipeline was on that card.

Re: Building a new PC

get the 8 series.. they are DX10 compatible.. find the equivalent to the 7600GT in that series.. it's a decent speed card good for most games.

Also look into the Gigabyte GA-965P mobo if you plan to overclock .. but it's kinda picky with memory sometimes.

Re: Building a new PC

Asif, tell me a good price for an AMD CPU (ASUS mobo...They are the best)...Better yet, put one together for me please...See if it can to the same price as yours...

Add an Audigy sound card and 512 for a graphics card...Black case with 420 W power supply and a CDRW...

Everything else you have seems perfect...

That is an awesome price...

Re: Building a new PC

true, or wait till amd release its next processor lineup barclelona that supposed to be 10 percent faster than the core 2, i suggest that yu change the hd to a western digital enterprise version, rest of the pc not bad

Re: Building a new PC

I think one should buy when he needs it... cuz there is always a better one around the corner... After barcelone there is going to be intel quad core for the price of current E6600... So after that their will be new architecture Core 3 or what ever.. So this cycle is not going to stop.. for this time i think Intel is providing the best bang for bucks.. and i find his choice of material pretty good.

Re: Building a new PC

Here is a little review of it.. nothing to get excited about… but as you said you are not a gamer so therefore i think it will serve good and plus DX10 support will help in Windows Vista greatly.

Here is another preview sort of..

Re: Building a new PC

I just placed my order with newegg. Thanks for all the help… I ended up with Radeon X1650XT for the video card.

Re: Building a new PC

someone tell Lajjo it's 2007..

Re: Building a new PC

Or maybe he has a time machine and came forward in time to get better prices :p

Re: Building a new PC

AMD CPUs are alive and kicking and competing against Intel very well in my opinion so thats not a thing of old days. So nothing wrong with AMD CPUs.

You can get a better burning speed with a CDRW compared to a DVDRW if you only burn CDs and don't burn DVDs so I can understand that too.

420W power supply is not all that bad either. You can run alotofcomputer with 420w. Or may be he just likes the number 420.

Lets welcome him to the geektown you'all will ya?

Re: Building a new PC

/\ I think you misunderstood TB :D
AMD cpus are very energy efficient so he wont really need a 420 Watts PSU :D

Re: Building a new PC

That's my story and I'm sticking to it :p

Re: Building a new PC

So have you recieved the components and built the system.? will like to hear your experiences and improvement you see over your last machine..

thanks

Re: Building a new PC

I haven't yet received the stuff. The UPS was supposed to have delievered it all yesterday. They didn't because of a delay in train's arrival or something. This is what the UPS tracking said:

05/17/2007 5:00 A.M. A LATE TRAIN CAUSED THIS DELAY

I have also ordered a new power supply which won't arrive until Monday anyway so I can't build the whole thing over the weekend as I was initially hoping.

I am not a colloquial by heart...But you get the drift...
