Who is he and why he was called ‘Bu Ali Sina’?

Bu Ali Sina (Avicenna) was the famous Persian philosopher and researcher in the field of medicine of 10th-11th Century. His books on medicine (including the Cannon of Medicine) were taught in European universities till 17th century.

I heard from a friend that Bu Ali Sina while standing on one feet for many years, made dua to Allah swt and He asked him 'What blessing do you want?'. He said I would like to have qualities like 'Hazrat Ali r.a.'

Allah swt said ‘Ali is one and no one else can have qualities like him.

Bu Ali sina again started praying standing on one feet and after many many years again Allah swt asked him ‘What blessing do you want?’ The request and reply were same.

Again Bu Ali Sina started praying. His one foot was completely infected due to continuously standing. Allah swt asked the same question and he requested for the same qualities.

This time Allah swt said: I will bless you with only one quality of Hazrat Ali r.a. that the smell of your body will be same as the smell of the sweat of Hazrat Ali r.a.

And that is why he was called Bu Ali Sina.

I don’t know whether this story is real or not.

I think you mixed up Bu Ali Sina with Bu Ali Qalandar (a famous saint).

PS: Bu Ali Sina is actually Abu Ali al-Hussain Ibn Abdullah Ibn Sina :)

What do you actually want to know about Bu Ali Sina. Briefly he was a great Persian philosopher and scholar in astronomy, medicine, etc. As I earlier mentioned he is famous in Europe todate and I read somewhere that some medical literature (probably directories) are published as Avicenna literature all over the globe.

Bu Ali Qalandar is a saint from Chishti order. His Dargah is in Pani Pat. You might have heard that there are 2.5 qalandars in world. One is Qalandar Shahbaz of Sehwan Sharif. Second is Bu Ali Qalandar and Rabia Basri is considered as half Qalandar.

LP who are the national heroes of Saudi Arabia besides religious personalities? I know there are no chances, are there any statue / paintings of any national heroes demonstrated in Saudi Arab?

I think I heard 'Bu Ali Sina NOT Bu Ali Qalandar'.

While many people knows BU Ali Sina due to his popularity even amongst European, Bu Ali Qalandar is a well know saint in Pani Pat India.
