BS in Mathematics

What kind of careers are available for Math majors besides teaching?
Any comments welcome!

A math major may find him/herself as a statistician or an actuary.

Anything from Innvestment banking for quant heavy trading i.e Hedge funds or consulting. A degree in Mathematics can open a lot of doors for you and prove to be quite lucrative. Keep it up .

There are lots of options out there with a maths major, especially if you are willing to move from pure mathematical theory to applications. Everything from engineering, sience to history and archeology. ANything that requires the development of models and their use could easily use mathematics major. You may want to take one or two courses in other fields as well just to give you a flair. Of course there are tonnes of jobs in the programming and CS sector for the maths type.

Yaar, do CS instead of Math if you have to. Its about the same amount of work and in terms of jobs, gives you more options. Though mostly your major does not have that much of a connection with the kind of job you might end up doing.

CS is so complicated and requires so much hard work. I have decided to minor both in math and CS and move to other things like business.

That’s true it does require a lot of hard work I’m regretting choosing CS myself :bummer: I guess its great if you love programming, but if you choose it cos its a ‘marketable’ major - that’s definitely not a good idea. Anyways, some colleges’ CS tracks are not as demanding as others. Also, you can choose easy electives.

But if you are going to do one major and two minors, why don’t you just do one major only that is more demanding?

There aren’t many jobs that a business major will get that a CS major won’t but the converse isn’t true.

But then again, you could major in something business and just minor in CS, that wouldn’t be a bad idea. Forget the math minor then.
