City has been abuzz with the news of the Canadian born American singer Bryan Adams making a visit to Pakistan. Now it’s official. The multi-platinum artist is undertaking a three-day visit to Karachi during which he will perform live, on January 29, at Arabian Sea Country Club to help raise funds for education and health projects being run by singer Shehzad Roy’s Zindagi Trust. An announcement to this effect was made at a press conference held at a local hotel here on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, Richard Coram, who represents Byran Adams, said that during his visit Adams is also expected to visit the Northern areas of the country. He said that Adams had visited various countries including America, Europe and Japan and that he was very excited to come to Pakistan and perform in Karachi. Richard further pointed out that Adams would come here with a full live band and some of the best musicians in the world. He was of the view that the January 29 event in Karachi would prove to be a great international event. Shehzad Roy, the president of Zindagi Trust also spoke on the occasion. He said, “Having established 36 schools all over Pakistan under Zindagi Trust, we are now planning to establish 5 more.” He said that every effort would be made to hold the event in an organised manner and ensure that there is no gate-crashing. The concert has been co-sponsored by Nokia and the ARY Digital Network. Nokia’s spokesman Mr. Ali Mehmood said, “As an artist of such great acclaim, Bryan Adams’ visit will put Pakistan on the international concert touring map and encourage other world-renowned musicians to add Pakistan to their schedules.” CEO ARY Digital Network Mr. Salman Iqbal said, "Never in the history of Pakistan has any Western singer performed LIVE. This is going to be the first time ever! “ARY is committed to providing masses of Pakistan with quality entertainment and this event is a confirmation of the same commitment,” he added. Adams is famed in the West as not only a singer and song writer but in recent times he even holds the flag of being a fashion photographer. Enchanting the hearts of many with his mega hits like ‘Summer of ‘69’, ‘Please Forgive Me’ and ‘Everything I do’, Adams is a known human rights activist and has stood up for major causes such as that of Breast Cancer, LiveAid against Poverty and Wildlife Support.
Only recently Adams released his 36-selection ‘Anthology’ album, which spans his entire career from 1980 to 2005. The album celebrated his 25th anniversary as a recording artist not only with his all-time greats but also two new recordings, most notably ‘When You’re Gone’ featuring popular TV diva Pamela Anderson. Apart from Adams’ two-hour long show, the concert will also feature Shehzad Roy. The brainchild of Roy, Zindagi Trust is working to eliminate the menace of child labour from our society, by providing education to our nation’s underprivileged children. The Trust extends help to the underprivileged children to read and to learn. The patron of Zindagi Trust, Lt. Gen. (Retd) Munir Hafeez said that the Trust was very well equipped to organise a mega event of this size in Pakistan. Samra Muslim, Deputy General Manager of Zindagi Trust, was also present on the occasion.
