Brownies help!

I have tried making brownies a few times now and each time they come out uncooked in the middle. What am i doing wrong? I preheat oven for enough time, I measure all the ingridents accurately, and I use pyrex pan to bake them for enough time. I use betty crocker’s brownies box and add in the eggs, oil, and water.

Re: Brownies help!

The oven might be too hot, causing the edges to bake faster and not the middle

Re: Brownies help!

i usually put the oven temperature 25-50 degrees less than whats listed on the package and even cook them a few minutes extra because the sides cook too quick and the center stays too soft. use a toothpick to poke through and when it comes out clean, they're ready!

@sweet.i.f: will help you. :smiley:

Re: Brownies help!

If your toothpick is coming out clean and the brownies come away from the side of the pan then it should be cooked. Are you sure its actually uncooked because brownies are suppose to be more goey and soft compared to cakes. It might help to let the brownies cool and firm up a little.

Re: Brownies help!

^ that's right !

my mom does alot of baking and she tells me the same thing that always check from the centre with the tooth pick , if it comes out clean then brownies have baked !

Re: Brownies help!

Yup, if your knife/toothpick comes out clean then they are cooked. You just don't want batter on your knife/toothpick after you've checked. Let them sit fir 10 minutes before cutting. They'll be soft. Also, they get this thin wispy layer on top after they've baked which can make them look uncooked but once you let them sit for 10 minutes, pat down the top w/ a spatula and you'll realize it's most probably cooked.

And brownies are slightly gooey/moist. If you've crossed out the previous scenerios then your oven could be the problem.

LOL thanks mroosh ;D

Ummm, dudette my first batch of brownies came out a big gooey from the middle...I let them set for a bit. They tasted oh so nice...and moist. :D

Re: Brownies help!

this is basic, but most ppl forget, make sure your rack is in the middle of the oven so the top half of the brownies cook even and the bottom half as well
