has anyone tried making it desi style.
How we fry onions and all
Re: Brown Rice
SIL uses it. She even makes biryani with it.
It really can't be desified (you'll notice the difference) because of the texture but it's edible with daals and other curries on top. It's very heavy so you'll make less of it.
I haven't converted. I just eat less rice.
Re: Brown Rice
^^ I dont have the will power like you do.
And I need to make stuff that I can bring to work for lunch.
Totally on a Saving kick.
Re: Brown Rice
Somehow I cannot get myself to like brown rice. I use quinoa instead sometimes. How about barley/wheat as a substitute for lunch?
Re: Brown Rice
Personally the kids and I love couscous and barley on occassion but like I said that Jatt of mine insists on rice. And now I start to worry about him because there is a history of heart disease in his family and we’re 36 this year. :sigh:
Food habits of a 6 yr old though. I really need to make small changes that he won’t notice over along period of time.
Re: Brown Rice
i tried making Biryani and palou but no one liked em .![]()
Re: Brown Rice
I use brown basmati a lot. I don't try to make it taste like white rice -- I expect it to be different. It is more substantial, more nutty. Great with dal, and add a cabbage salad and you've got a great veggie meal.
I always like a bit of butter on it, too.
Re: Brown Rice
brown rice takes ages to cook and tastes yucky...i've to use this due to my diabetes! :(
Re: Brown Rice
what is the liquid to rice ratio when cooking?
Re: Brown Rice
I am lazy and make it in a rice cooker. I generally just put a little extra water in when making brown rice.
I prefer WHITE RICE myself,mmmmmmmmmmmmmm ![]()
Re: Brown Rice
Has anyone heard of a restaurant called Bamiyan Kabob? They serve delicious brown basmati rice with their Kababs. The rice is long grained and really separated, I think they add oil to the rice. And I’ve seen them take it out of a giant rice cooker.
Does anyone have an idea of how they might be cooked? Do normal brown basmati rice taste good from a rice cooker? And are the rice grains separate like white rice or clumped together?

Re: Brown Rice
glad I'm not the only one that doesn't like brown rice.
you know you could try half and half
half normal rice and half brown rice thats what I did because I didn't like brown rice

Thanks Muniya! I'm gonna try it out! I like brown rice but don't like clumped rice at all!
