i cook brown rice. they are very tasty. and good for health too. :>
i hope you dont mean pilao, because then this what i am saying may be irrelevant.
but for the brown rice, there is a way to cook them, other wise, they may not be fully cooked.
take a 2 cups of brown rice. soak in 2 cups of water for 2 hours. warm 4 cups of water. add any boiled vegetables that you like to add in there. simmer for 10 minutes. now add the rice. cook for 30 minutes until the water decreases. unlike boil rice, you wont take out the startch from these rice. add salt and pepper. mix once and when rice are almost dry, lower the flame and place the lid back to have the rice be finally cooked in their own steam.
serve with raita and a steamed meat dish - fish for instance.

thanksssss alot dushwari for the recipe i really need that too but can u tell me what we will call brown rice in urdu. are they known saila rica in urdu which is commonly used for zarda.

i am not sure what they are caled in Urdu. but, if you go to a halal food store or even indian grocery stores, you will see them in smaller packets next to basmati rice packets. sometimes, they are on the isles, where sugar and dry flour packets are put. i am sure, on the brown rice packets, it will have its Urdu word name. i get mine from regular super markets - whole foods, shop rite, or target.

Saila rice are called "Easy cook rice". If you are in the UK you can find Easy Cook Basmati Rice at all the major super market - Sainsburys', Asda, Tesco etc.
Never use the so called american long grain easy cook rice.
Easy cook basmati rice are best for cooking biryani.

Sainsburys' have good quality brown rice and brown rice are considered as "healthy food" over there.
