Brown Rice Dishes

I’m looking for some recipes with Brown Rice.

If anyone knows of any please do respond to this post.

I also need to know is cooking brown rice any different from cooking white rice?
I heard that there is a difference but I don’t have any details.

Considering I have never seen brown rice served at any of the desi events I’ve been to, I doubt there are any desi dishes. Right? Or are there such items out there, which I have just failed to see.

Please enlighten me

Re: Brown Rice Dishes

brown rice needs to be cooked for very long periods. or u can soak it overnight and then cook it the next day to get it cooked faster.

Re: Brown Rice Dishes

cook it with chicken or vegetable stock...it won't be so bland

Re: Brown Rice Dishes

Brown Rice can be cooked with stir fried vegetables and chicken or keema. Try making them with Keema or boneless chicken and make its a bit spicy.
I cook them with chicken stock and layer them with chicken and vegetables, lots of dried and fresh herbs. In the end just layer it with bread crumbs and cheese and bake it for 20 mins on gas mark 5. (optional)

I also add it to my soups some times if I feel like it...

I sometimes make rissotto with them because they have more texture.

Thanks guys!

I was beginning to think that brown rice was non existent in the desi kitchen..hehehe ;)

I will keep your recommendations in mind when cooking my Basmati brown rice :)

Re: Brown Rice Dishes

I like to cook a chicken stirfry with cabbage, carrots, brocolli and beansprouts in a kung pao sauce. Use fresh not frozen veggies. This gives the brown rice a little spicy and saucy flavor.

Re: Brown Rice Dishes

Hello, everyone. I'm new here but I'd like to contribute. The best way to make brown rice dishes taste good is to toast the rice. Place your saucepan on medium heat and put the dry brown rice in (don't pre-wash it). Stir and shake the rice around frequently as it browns to a uniform golden color. Stir often; don't let it burn. It will start to crackle and smoke a bit but that's no cause for alarm. When it browns, then you can wash it. What I do then is usually add vegetable stock, some tumeric, cumin, garam masala, basil, ground coriander, cashews, almonds, and vegetables and simmer for about 30 minutes. The toasting gives the brown rice a nice nutty flavor. I hope you enjoy this recipe.
