The other day I was at the halal store buying groceries, and when I got to the rice section I noticed that along with regular basmati rice, there was also bags of brown basmati rice. Has anyone ever used that?
How do you cook it? and is it a good substitute for white basmati rice? I want to start eating healthier, but I LOVE rice too much! I usually eat rice about 5 times a week (I know, its so bad…but I just love rice too much!) So I thought this might be a good alternative to white rice.
any ideas/suggestions?
Re: Brown Basmati Rice
Saima, I have cooked brown rice just a few times ... so dont have much experience with them , but basically they are less refined ... they use up more water when boiling them ... and are slightly chewy compared to the regular white rice ... and you have to be careful with them coz the minute they are cooked you got to be quick to take them off the flame or else they will turn into brown kheer :(
Re: Brown Basmati Rice
I can't imagine them being very tasty. You're just gonna have to cut down on rice if you want to eat healthier. I'm really starting to think carbs are the devil.
Re: Brown Basmati Rice
erm yes stoppit is right , they arent really as yummy as white basmati .. but the good thing I strongly felt was that you do feel full after having a little portion ... so you dont eat as much of them ...
Re: Brown Basmati Rice
thanks for the advice! I will buy a small bag and see how it turns out (and tastes). Im a beginner cook, so I dont want to be serving brown rice kheer with my salan!!!
