Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

Now that supreme court has reached a decision on displaying of Ten Commandments, in retrospect a lot of people still think it was a waste of time or being too much “politically correct” etc etc… but I think the whole thing was a great and contineous victory of freedom and self-corrective spirit of American society. I’m not talking about the decision itself. If court had decided any different even then I’d have thought the same thing.

There is an interesting theory I read about in a book I’m reading these days. It’s called Broken Windows syndrome. According to this theory in a neighborhood where passerbys see a broken window and no body fixes it, if another window breaks, people will still not notice and carry on with their daily routines. Neighborhoods where small petty crimes and thuggery go unnoticed will eventually attract more thieves and encourage more crime. If a murder happens in that neighborhood and the murderer is caught, it will still not have a bigger impact if the “windows are broken”.

Back in early 90’s, NYC crime rate was at its peak. They appointed a new police chief who applied the broken windows theory to NYC subway system. NYC subway system was the hub of crimes at that point from mugging to panhandling to even murders. What they did was first they made sure that there was no graffiti in subway train cars. They argued that a trashed, graffiti infested train car is encouraging for breaking the law. They also put a dozen policeman at the entraces to address the issue of people jumping over the bars to take a ride without paying. The addressed the issue at the very grassroot level. Soon they’d have people being caught, for say, panhandling and upon the background check would find out that many of them had outstanding warrants against them. They found a lot of people carrying knives or guns. This had drastic impact on the small time crooks. NYC crime rate dropped drastically within few years.

I think issues raised like displaying of Ten commandments are in a way broken windows. Yes, they are probably not worth the effort and money that goes into in trying them in the court of law on the onset. But I think it goes a long way towards the spirit of freedom and doctrine of separation of church and state. If you don’t keep check on it constantly, it’ll transform into a bigger problem eventually.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

I think giving you the citizenship now would be a good decision for America.
Please go to the nearest INS office, show them your ghupshup posts to and submit your fake green card to receive the real American citizenship.
God bless america,,,,,one more down. next is Lajjo.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

Chann ji, I'm a citizen already. This is actually a compaign for senator-hood.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

suppose you have to explain this in layman's terms, you would say...fix your zipper, before it leads to committing rapes and you end up in prison for life.:)

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

No Chann ji, zipper is not the issue. Un-hijab zada women are the actual problem. That's the first thing I'd do. Put burqa on every woman.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

good...you are embracing the American spirit(and I don't mean the one they supply in bottles) very fast...although I suggest before you try senator-hood, practice a little of your man-hood.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

naked faces of women leads to faulty zippers, faulty zippers lead to rapes.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

Romeo I wana pick up a piece of broken widow glass and shove it up your ass.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

^^ but that won't fix his broken zipper problem.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

Madhanee, you're mistaken. Your window is not broken, it's just wide open.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

Ok - here’s the confusing part - it is illegal to display in a courtroom, however legal in a government building (state capital)

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

yeah window is open but no burglaris for him....
eh te barha kehnda aay....aao koi mainu lutt lao...par koi lutt'da ee nai.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

Channji, I have double hung insulated windows that you can only see from the inside. You can not see from the outside looking in like the ones in Romeo’s.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

double hung windows are a good choice to make up for smaller porch.:)

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

Madhanee, what's the point of doubly insulated windows if your balcony is always plundered?

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

Channji, you could say that, but you could also say that my double hung is prettier than Romeo's bay window. His is way too big and hard to clean when it gets dirty.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

now he will come back and claim, he had hard metal doors in the balcony.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

ChanniMahi, Roman and Madhanee. when ever your guys get together ina thread i imagine old men in their 60s acting like complete perverts touching each other. I hate the picture you guys paint. Please throw your computers away. Thanks.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

touching part is only true about Roman and madhanee..they always push me away saying I an dirty kafir and will make them bhrasht.

ps: you are missing the point. Roman wanted to have an intellectual debate and show all the girls on ghupshup his intellectual prowess....we decided to protest such a fake dispaly of self delusion in our own unique way....and also killed his chances of getting a decent date based on this thread.

Re: Broken Windows and Ten Commandments

Channji, I have the shutter type, you lift from botton to open. Romeo's opens like a book. Which one you think is prettier?
