Had to see what the hype is all about. Putting aside whatever little prejudice I hold, I entered the cinema hall hoping for something glorious ( as raved by critics) and amazing.
Well, the movie starts and for first 15 minutes I don’t understand a single word of what is being said, the hillbilly accent is too damn thick. I see two men herding sheep on slopes of breathtakingly beautiful mountains. I see them developing a bond and “christening” it (excuse me while I throw up, AGAIN!). I see them going seperate ways once the sheep herding season is over. Them getting married, having children, then meeting again. Cheating on their respective wives. The female of the relationship (Jake Gyllenhaal) keeps crying and moping for both of them to be together. The man won’t budge. Years keep passing by, both keep meeting 3 to 4 times a year. Heath gets divorced, children grow up. Jake can’t stand the distance, starts cheating on his MAN. And one fine day Jake gets killed in a hate crime. Heath goes to Jake’s parents, gets a shirt of his which has some memories attached to it and goes back to his place. The end.
I wonder what is so different or special about this movie. I failed to notice anything out of the ordinary. Heath seems stiff in his role, though his character is on the stiffer side. Jake is obviously more comfortable playing what he is playing. Though one does feel bad towards the end and how much ever you don’t want to sympathize, you can’t help it. The cinematography is awesome at places. Women are adequare. Overall, just an ordinary movie.
ending sucked...makes no sense. all you know is that he's gonna make out with his dead bf's shirt. i wanted to see a wedding...with the queer eyed guys as the planners.
