Britain leads the world in the rate of porn downloads, according to a survey by a national newspaper.
The study for The Independent on Sunday found that just under 40 per cent of British males visited pornographic websites in 2005.
This adds up to nine million men, compared with an estimate of two million back in 2000.
The new figures show that one in four men aged 25 to 49 have visited an adult website in the past month, and UK net users search for the term ‘porn’ more than anyone in the English-speaking world.
The survey, which was carried out by Nielsen//NetRatings, also revealed that the number of UK women downloading pornography has risen from one million to 1.5 million in the past year.
More than half of all children questioned also said they had found adult websites online while they were “looking for something else”.

The Independent on Sunday* said that its study was the first real measure of how much pornography the British consume, and that Britain is now the fastest growing market for adult downloads.
It's unfortunate how the market for porns and prostituion is growing. Some research pointed out that in the next ten years, this will be the most lucrative and successful business in US. It offers high profits, and involves low risks, and minimal capital investment. Women and children are trafficked for this purpose and the trafficking alone generates about 7 to 10 billion annually.
People who watch porns, may it be US, UK or PK, are the consumers of this business and create a huge market. West can be blamed for it's own culture which propagates that. Girls and women from a normal family dress up like prostitues, and you can hardly tell a difference. I saw a girl the other day (who was guite heavy chested) wearing a top that said across the chest, "Totally Worth It", not to mention the extremely low-rise trousers. They call it liberation, but some sane Women groups, psychologist and human rigths activists are challenging the growing obscenity in the society.
Why it is considered so bad for a country like Pk, is because it's a muslim country and all those teachings of modesty and guarding chastity and lowering gaze, fail here big time. Islam condemns publicising people's secrets, wrong acts but yet one wud find such private videos made in Pk and/or Islamic countries on the net. Is it not a shame for us?
People (who watch porns) consider it a free ride. They think those girls are doing it out of choice, as if it's their job, sex workers. No one understand the plight of those women who have been sold into this business by force, or by their own choice (which was a mistake or lack of awareness). A lot of girls when get drunk in parties (at times the pill in their driks) get coerced into porns and or nude pictures which are then blackmailed and end up in the Pron market for the rest of their lives, since society is not ready to take them back living a respectful life.
Internet Pron is increasing fast and is a shame on the face of so called civilized societies. How to check it? How can it be stopped or curtailed? Esp. when companies like Google and MSN are buying the ads of prons, net-dating etc. thats' how kids end up getting into this even they were not searching for word pron or sex. Wish we can have some organized efforts to challenge and minimize it.

Anyone who's lived in Britain would not be the least bit surprised. It's a rather sexually charged country, it's just considered extremely improper to show it in public.
