Brits Declare--"War is Won"

I guess I have to agree. There may be some battles left, but it is very clear that there is only one military outcome. May it be fast…

‘WAR HAS BEEN WON’

A British Army spokesman has declared the military war against Saddam Hussein’s forces has been won, reports say.

Colonel Chris Vernon is reported to have said: "Militarily we have won the war - no significant resistance remains either in Basra or Baghdad.

“The British now control Basra and US forces will control Baghdad within days.”

The comments were reported by Nick Parker of The Sun, who is in Basra.

Parker reported that Colonel Vernon said “there are no areas of the city that we are now concerned about”.

Asked where the pro-Saddam Fedayeen fighters had gone in the past 24 hours, Colonel Vernon added: "Most of them are dead or taken prisoner.

“Resistance is now sporadic and incoherent.”

Colonel Vernon is the senior spokesman for the British Army in Iraq.

His comments were made to The Sun on his return from a briefing with top commanders at the British Army’s Field HQ near Basra, Parker said.

The statement would have been made with the full approval of UK military top brass, Parker added.

He said Colonel Vernon added: "We shortly expect to be able to divert forces from combat roles to concentrate on post conflict nation building.

“There has been looting and we are talking to residual elements of the police in Basra about helping with law and order.”

Yeah…we won!! :k: :k: :flower1: :flower2: Time to mop up and string Saddam and his cronies by their nuggets in the square controlled byt he kurds.

I hope you will have the same reaction when more brits and us soldiers are killed. Its all been a political game, war is won, yeah right, same way you got rid of Osama Bin Laden. whatever.

Well they did indeed.. ask the British in Basra if they wouldn’t be sleeping with one eye open :hehe:

Is saddam Caught yet ?? Or has the regime been changed yet ??

FInally the Iraqi people will be free. They can hopefully develop a multicultural society rife with secular/capitalist principles to give them a chance for the future. And may Saddam and his men get a thousand bites from the fleas of a rotting camel…:nook:

I think this is jumping the gun a bit. There was never any doubt of the outcome, a Coalition victory. What's been won and still being won is the liberation of Iraq. Iraqi WMD still pose a threat.

Chaltahai: The war was already won before it began, so no cheering needed. The only issue was how long, how many lives it takes to place coalition forces around Iraq and Baghdad and not to ignore the blow to "honesty".

A little psychological warfare UTD?

A bit premature, the true victory will come when the planted WMD will be "suddenly" found and praded in front of the world to prove that America was right to start the war and kill thousands of innocent Iraqis.

Finally, the American nation will rejoice when Sharon gives the final approval of victory by killing a few hundred Palestinians.

Ah yes..the palestinian problem..didn;t take long. :hehe:

All in due time..

There is no FINAL.

Chaltahai

You've finally spoken the Truth. You must be commended for your honesty. Maybe the politicians should take a leaf out of your book..

Secular society and capitalist movement!

The real reason.

But will be tolerated for the interest and security of the nation.

i must be sleeping under a rock - the war has been “won”?

If one can’t keep Basra under control, what to say of the rest of the country?

“Basra is in chaos” ~ BBC’s Hillary Andersson

UK aid ‘hindered’ by looters, BBC, 8 April 2003

Widespread looting in Basra has become a serious obstacle to getting aid into the city, according to reports. Looters are said to be rife in Iraq’s second city and British troops had to fire into the air on Tuesday to prevent young men from stripping aid lorries bare.

The population is desperately short of water, but coalition spokesmen deny there is a humanitarian crisis.

Meanwhile, British Forces have started to work with local community leaders in Basra to run the city in the first move towards restoring normality. UK military leaders said they had no plans to intervene to stop the looters until the last scraps of opposition had been stamped out.

Looting is proving a serious obstacle to getting aid into the city, according to BBC correspondent Clive Myrie. “It [Basra] is a centrepiece for rioting and disorder and it is British troops that will have to pick up the pieces.” He witnessed British troops firing at a lorry.

Lieutenant Colonel Ben Curry said: “There is a power vaccum here. The old Iraqi regime is being swept away and people are effectively going back to the law of the jungle and are grabbing what they can whilst they can. Civil order will be returned hopefully in a matter of days.”

Yah Nadia, didnt you hear war has been won by James Bond like operations in Basra. Same way they won the war in Afghanistan and have all of the 3 block area in Kabul under control for Hamid Karzai and Gang ;)

War? It was an ILLEGAL invasion of a country and yes it may sooner or later be complete.
