british pakistani/american pakistani culture

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

Being told to have a nice day is actually quite nice itself...:)

There are really no major differences...honestly.

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

A man who likes chocolate

We almost missed our flight back from London, time before last because we were busy buying chocolate from the duty-free and missed the announcement telling us to go the gate. We made our flight, but the others who had connections missed their connections, oops!

Really, chocolate in NA can’t be compared to European chocolates

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

people from east coast may have problems adjusting to texas, thank god its not mississippi. Your cousins are absolutely incorrect we have a nice little group of brit-paks here in chicago that meets up every so often, aside from a coupe or two where both are brits who moved its a britpak married to a yankistani. no issues adjusting.

I thin the issue is less of a asian brit or a pak american, the issue is just as a brit can you adjust. and I am sorry to say cities in texas simply can not compare to London, they are mostly spread out suburbia and lack personality as cities, forget brits, as my newyorker pals went to dallas and sent an sos saying I need to get out of here etc. the lifestyle is different, its just not as cosmopolitan and multicultural as London, assuming you are in London (since that is the frame of reference most pakistanis have about UK)

you will do just fine, the places are fine, different yes, but they have their own pluses and minuses and as long as you are open to change, yo might miss some aspects of UK, you might find new things there that you could not find in UK and as a balance do just fine.

I am a Londoner, I love that city, its home no other place has the same feeling for me, but I like living in Chicago, love it in fact.

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

One of my guilty pleasures is going here once in a blue moon :o :

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

LOL, same here we were busy shopping for chocolates, we almost missed our flight, so my sister and I ran to the plane, and there were one or two passport checkpoints… I just kept running and the security noticed how I left my sister behind and thought that was really strange, my sister said, “oh don’t worry, she’s holding the plane for me”.. so i got on the plane and stood half way so that they couldn’t close the door :)… we made the flight

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

BTW, I had the crepes with Nutella and bananas in Paris you mentioned - it was good but I was expecting something more.

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

awww sorry to hear that, the street vendor I got it from made it really good.. I guess those things can be hit or miss sometimes.

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

Oh man…the 99 Flake. I have a park behind my house and every summer there’s an ice cream van there that does the best 99 Flake ever. It’s especially good with raspberry sauce :hayaa: Then I wonder why I never actually lose any weight when I go for my “jogs” in the park.

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

I'd probably just jog around the van a few times. :D

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

Thanks ALOT X2, this post is kind of just what i needed to read!

Im not from london but more the outskirts but i live in a VERY british city.

Nothing can live upto the charachter eccentricity and the quirk of london and other such european cities.

The thing is im very british...im deeply dry in my humour and sarcastic, i dont like branded clothing, and i have the brit 'reserve'.

I have a couple of rishtas from america, one from austin one from maryland.

I guess im scared i wont fit in and wont adjust....its still early days but my dad asked me 'really think about whether you are happy to leave england and go to america?'

so it has got me thinking!

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

here here! :D Love London! Pretty much grew up here..

As far as the topic is concerned.. I agree with you. There does not seem much of a difference between Amerika and the UK. The only thing is the person your considering.. he may be an American born so he's view could be quite different due to his upbringing.. other than that.. the US is quite up to par to the UK.. depending on which state you go to....

Re: british pakistani/american pakistani culture

It doesn't necessarily matter which country you're from, what's more important is which part of town or city you're from. I'm from Vancouver, Canada but I live very close to the Masjid and there are many Muslim families around here. I see a lot of burkhas and jubas walking around. My dad makes my sisters wear a scarf when they go to school and he makes me pray namaz five times daily.

We have some family friends in Calgary and they are nothing like us. There's a very small number of Muslims there compared to Vancouver, Montreal or Toronto so they're very different from us. So it depends on how your family is, religion or secular, and that is mostly dependent on which area you live in.
