He could have easily served in other safer places where he is more needed…for example: slums of pakistan, india and bangladesh or most of africa.

Did he have some sort of wanna be arab complex to go there?

this is ridiculous. maybe he is syrian or arab, and was there to help people at a time when they needed it most. it says he’d already worked in the area before.
