Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

Luckily we’ve got room for one more at Gitmo. I truly hope that the original “keyboard jehadi” enjoys his stay.

Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

LONDON (Reuters) - Britain said on Wednesday it had agreed to extradite a computer expert wanted by the United States to face terrorism charges, but the man’s family vowed to take the case to court to have the decision overthrown.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke said he had given his go-ahead for Babar Ahmad’s extradition after delaying a decision on the long-running case in July.

“There have been a couple of extensions in this case and having looked carefully at all the representations, the Home Secretary decided there aren’t any bars to this extradition,” a Home Office spokeswoman said.

Ahmad, 30, a British citizen, has been held in jail on a U.S. arrest warrant since August 2004. He is accused of running a Web site that raised funds for Muslim militants in Afghanistan and Chechnya.

“This decision should only come as a surprise to those who thought that there was still justice for Muslims in Britain,” Ahmad said in a statement from his cell in Woodhill high security prison in central England.

In May, a British court ruled he should be extradited, saying he would receive a fair trial after the U.S. embassy promised he would not be sent to the Guantanamo Bay prison camp in Cuba, or turned over to a third country for torture.

The case was then passed on to Clarke to sign off on his extradition.

Under legislation introduced in 2003, the U.S. can seek extradition without having to present any evidence to a British court.

AHMAD “SHOULD FACE UK TRIAL”

However Ahmad’s supporters, who have waged a vociferous and determined campaign, argue he should face trial in Britain if he has charges to answer.

Before he was arrested under the U.S. extradition request, he had been held by British police but freed without charge, a sign, supporters say, that his case would not have been solid enough to convict him at home.

“This is a sad day for Britain and an even sadder day for British Muslims,” his campaign group said.

“If the floodgates for extradition are allowed to be opened, it will be British Muslims that will be targeted, the very people the British government was hoping to win support from in 'the fight against terrorism.”’

His family said Ahmad, who ran as a candidate for parliament in May’s election to highlight his cause, would now appeal against Clarke’s decision at London’s High Court.

The Home Office said if that appeal failed, he could take his case to Britain’s highest court, the House of Lords, for a final decision, delaying the extradition by months.

Britain’s leading Muslim lobby group said it was deeply worried about Clarke’s decision, saying it could further alienate some Muslim youths.

“We call on him to renegotiate the Extradition Treaty 2003 so it better protects our citizens – whether Muslims or non-Muslims – from this type of manifest injustice,” said Iqbal Sacranie, secretary-general of the Muslim Council of Britain.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

prolly woulda been easier to just send him to dem prisons in eastern europe. less publicity and more ability to get the info out of him.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

I like you're thinking Fraudz (even if you're being sarcastic) but don't think he really has much info to give. He's simply going to be punished for providing material support to terrorist organizations.

This is the clown who was behind azzam.com, one of the original keyboard jehadi sites. He used this site to raise money which he funneled to "mujahideen" efforts in Chechnya and Palestine initially, then Afghanistan and Iraq.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

We are in year 4 of a forty year war. Who do you think is winning?

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

Stu, how are those "mujahideens" doing that were supported by us. You do remember the 80's dont you?

One very disturbing line in this story is
"Under legislation introduced in 2003, the U.S. can seek extradition without having to present any evidence to a British court"
Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

Kaleem your argument about Muj “supported by us” is utterly devoid of logic.

So one day you want to remove part of wall on your property. You hire some “bearded mazdoors (laborers)” on a contract. You pay them on time based on “agreed upon rates”. Then the job is done but the bearded mazdoors turn around and start demolishing your living room. You shout and cry that “Baba! don’t destroy my house. It was not part of the contract!”. These bearded mazdoors don’t stop and start threatening to kill your family members.

No matter how hard you try to explain that baba the “contract” is over, these bearded maulanas don’t stop. Their logic is ??? “you supported us in the 80’s so keep paying us the money even when the contract is over”. Hahahahha. Hope you got the point.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

stu .. what makes you think I am being sarcastic?

I fully support “phainti” of criminals and suspects to get information out of them to prevent any future and further damage to innocent people.

btw for those who dont know the meaning of word phainti, its similar to chitrol, litrol, etc.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

Chitrol and litrol were ancient methods of scaring the $hit out of your opponents. Modern day info-war demands better methods than simple chitrol. We lose more by perpetrating toruture. The idea is “lockup the terrorists” but “do not” torture them.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

Dunno, its too early to tell yet. I think we’ll find out in about 2 decades or so when the x agents and politician are retired and start writing their auobiographies. Thats when the truth usually comes out.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

Governments and terrorists both are winning. The only losers are the innocent people.

It is a shame that 26,000 innocent Iraqis have lost their lives after Sad-Damn’s government was thrown out.

It is bigger shame that Muslims governments and especially Pakistan is standing by watching innocent Iraqis being car-bombed to smithereens.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

yeah truth serum..use that too.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

Going by the economics, I would say America is losing…Big time…Not to mention, the recruitment for the other side is just in the beginning stages…

The other side is growing stronger by the day thanks to the policies in Iraq…Your government meanwhile will keep giving you the rosy picture…

China looms big…

Who is winning?

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

^^America spends money, and China looms big. How about Maulanas? They are dying in ever larger numbers either at the hands of fellow suicide bombers or at by the bullets of opposing sectarians. Whatever is left of them gets handed over to USA. Seems like getting to Gitmo is the ultimate goal of a Maulana's life.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

No…The ultimate goal of any Muslim is paradise…If any Muslim spends any moment in agony or wrongful incarceration, that moment for him will raise him god knows how much in status closer to the Creator…

As for dying, well, every soul shall taste death…Whether by a bullet or on a pillow…If someone dies expecting reward from Allah :swt:, then surely he will receive it…

Mere words for you but standards to live by for many…

You try to appease the Kuffar and :insha: may you succeed as well your kin…There are those that appease Allah :swt: and :insha: may they succed as well as their kin…

Two days vs. an eternity…

I wouldn;t mind if the whole world was pissed off at me if I pleased Allah…

Let those appease those from whom one wishes to receive the greatest reward…

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

Actions of Maulanas speak louder than these words. Suicide bombs and killings of innocents do not get anyone to paradise let alone a Maulana sahib.

If the whole world is pissed off at a Maulana sahib, it is likely that Allah himself isn’t happy either.

A true Muslim brings good news for the humanity and people respond in kind.

However Maulanas’ mission these days is to bring death and destruction to the humanity and the world is responding in kind.

Anyways I didn’t want to start a long argument on this. We both know each others stance on things. I respect your point of view and we should agree to disagree.

I just want to wish you and your family the best.

Thank you for reading this post. **

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

How do you know these bombs were not being set of by the US or Britain to cause internal strife? Do you forget divide and conquer? How do you know this is not their ploy, which I am sure it is…Plant misunderstandings and reap the fruits of discord…

The whole world at one time has been against many people…Didn’t mean they were wrong…Read about the Prophets, specifically Nuh :as: and Ibrahim :as:…

Ask the 700 Jews which your Prophet :saw: executed for treachery and treason…A Muslim does bring good news but he also becomes death for wrongdoers…

No, it is to liberate the lands of Muslims so Muslims can live in their lands in peace…Internal strife aside, more people are killed on the highways in America than all the Sunni Shia fasadaat in the world…

Thanks and welcome…That is a gracious way to reply…I appreciate it…

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

You’re right that China is our ultimate competition. Islamic fundamentalists are a speed bump for America, which we happen to be running over with our SUVs.

Luckily, the entire western world is realizing that they need to be dealt with, and have begun taking their own measures. Although other western nations may be giving us some diplomatic grief, we are also being given leeway.

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

Well, the speed bump seems to be growing by leaps and bounds into a mountain, innit? Good going…:k:

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

a mountain? hardly

the best "your herrows" (aka the speedbumps) are capable of mustering is the occasional IED or torched peugot. not exactly salahuddin

Re: Britain agrees to extradite terrorism suspect to US

There is no such thing as Jihadi you moron. The proper word is Mujahid. You Americans are good at pulling new Arabic words out of your ass.
