Bringing work home

laptops and internet has made work mobile.
accessibility to files and documents through viewing of electronic copies of the same have made it easy to carry work with oneself.

is it normal for people to bring work home everyday?
why or why not, share your own personal perspectives, if you like.

share if you like.

Re: Bringing work home

Its just part of business now a days. Slowly slowly we are accustomed to working anywhere and everywhere and be more competetive.

If you want to be competetive, it is very likely that you will doing work from home to gain productivity and also to shine at your workplace. I think its just the nature of business here in the US. Rest of the world, I know nothing about

Re: Bringing work home

Boston,

you are right and sometimes it is near impossible to not be thinking of work.
the challenge is to balance how much work gets onto your mind.
it is true to that people who dedicate their lives to their work, esp to create a legacy, dnt necessarily have to be absolutely consumed by their work.
balance is the key.
best,

Re: Bringing work home

You nailed it right on the head, it is about how good you are at disconnecting yourself from work. And it takes time to discover the best method that works for you. After a long time I have learned that I need to shutdown my coputer and turn off the email on my PDA. Then and only then I will be able to disconnect my brain from work and I can enjoy life :)

Re: Bringing work home

What if you enjoy your work and enjoy life working. And please no "Get a life" type comments.

Re: Bringing work home

That's what you call a honeymoon period :) Every new beginning has a bright start … you see garden full of roses and after sometime reality hits you .... in other words 'Change' is inevitable!! Just like life, work goes up and down and I do not believe that you can enjoy your work forever.

Re: Bringing work home

If its honeymoon, its probably the longest one anyone has ever had since it has lasted more than 11 years for me. I have had my ups and downs but for the most part, I love what I do and I get paid for it. If I find my self working from home sometimes, its usually by choice.

Re: Bringing work home

I feel the same as Asif2000. I like what I do and find challenges and difficulties in my job to be totally addicting. I, though, absolutely try to avoid working from home, if at all possible, as my short time at home is for my wife and kids.

Re: Bringing work home

^ absolutely, there is no such work that should take precedence over one's family once people begin one.
