I loved this novel when I was younger. It’s a story that has haunted and moved me ever since I read it. I was a bit concerned when I saw the advertisements for it because, though they made it see like a fun fantasy film, they didn’t seem true to the novel.
I saw the movie this weekend, and I was pleasantly surprised. The film beautifully conveyed the story and struggles of the novel. I was actually crying at moments (not just getting teary-eyed). I highly recommend it, especially if you love the novel. Note, if you want to take small children, be warned that the film has some very sad moments in it.
